Surgery and Urology

The primary mission is to meet Region Gotland's needs for emergency and trauma surgery as well as planned surgical/urological care.

We have a close collaboration with Region Stockholm.

The operation consists of a department with 18 care places and a clinic divided into breast, surgery, vascular, urology, and endoscopy. The assignment also includes children and adolescents. The urology clinic is the only one on the island and thus handles all urology on the island, which requires broad competence. We have a shared primary on-call service for surgical specialties. Urology is included in the surgical on-call service's assignment.

Visby Hospital, Gotland's only hospital, is a small hospital with a wide range. Our advantage is that we are close to each other and easily get to know each other personally. Challenges exist in being able to handle most things considering our vulnerability located on an island. Collaboration regarding highly specialized care primarily occurs with Region Stockholm.

Your Responsibilities

The healthcare assignment in Gotland is characterized by a wide clinical breadth and a high proportion of emergency patients. This places special demands on the individual but also on collaboration with other specialties and professional groups to provide patients with optimal and safe care.

The catchment area varies somewhat with the seasons and amounts to about 70,000.

We currently have two senior doctors, one of whom is retiring soon, a newly qualified specialist, and a resident who is halfway through their training. We have two experienced outpatient nurses, but no operating nurse, and one nursing assistant.

The urology department has about two operating days a week where we currently perform surgeries.

TURB, TURP, TUIP, flexible and semi-rigid laser lithotripsy, internal urethrotomy, and diagnostic procedures dominate. We also perform all foreskin and scrotal surgery. Included are also open nephrectomies and resections and NFU as well as a number of open adenoma nucleations. There is no robot, but there are new surgical staplers for both endourological procedures and laparoscopy.

We have two modern examination rooms with ultrasound from BK and so far perform cognitive fusion biopsies transrectally. A separate modern cystoscopy room is available.

The outpatient work covers the entire spectrum of urology and places high demands on knowledge breadth.

We refer to Region Stockholm for highly specialized care, KS Solna for cystectomies, and KS Huddinge for advanced kidney cancer.

For prostate cancer, all collaboration occurs with SÖS with regular MDKs and all curative treatment takes place there. A well-functioning oncology clinic exists at the hospital with good collaboration and recurring conferences.

Who Are You?

We see that you who are applying are a specialist doctor in urology with at least five years of experience after obtaining your specialist certificate.

A holistic perspective and an active search for knowledge as well as an interest in working in a team with other professional groups are important prerequisites for the work. We are looking for someone who wants to develop their specialist knowledge and is motivated to be a knowledge resource for others.

Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

You master the Swedish language fluently in both speech and writing.

Before a hiring decision is made, a background check will be conducted through an extract from the criminal record.
