Research Environments

The department's research is organized into three overarching research environments:

  • Didactic Classroom Studies (https://www.gu.se/forskning/didaktiska-klassrumsstudier) where teaching, learning, and the content of these processes are cohesively highlighted and studied.
  • Phenomenography, Variation Theory, and Learning Study (https://www.gu.se/forskning/fenomenografi-variationsteori-learning-study) focuses on how students' opportunities to learn specific subject content can be improved.
  • Critical Educational Research (https://www.gu.se/forskning/kritisk-utbildningsforskning-kruf) addresses education as a social and political institution and includes studies of knowledge processes, educational reforms, and teaching professions.

The Department of Education and Educational Professions is now announcing up to four full-time PhD positions with admission to doctoral education in educational work, or subject didactics with specializations. The positions will be linked to the department's research environments and preferably to ongoing research projects.
