Youth Counselor at the Social Administration Nordost

The Social Administration Nordost works to provide residents in northeastern Gothenburg with equal and effective welfare, enabling them to live safe and independent lives. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Within the Social Administration Nordost, there are two units, Ung Öst and Ung Angered, collectively known as Ung Nordost.

In Ung Öst, there are youth counselors, SSPF coordinators (school, social services, police, and leisure), SIG coordinators (social intervention group), and KAA caseworkers (municipal activity responsibility). This is a service for young people in Bergsjön, Kortedala, Kviberg, Utby, and Gamlestaden aged 12-25 years with psychosocial issues, criminality, substance abuse, and/or mental health problems. The work is carried out in close collaboration within Ung Nordost and with other key actors to identify young people who need support in their life situation and motivate them to change risk behaviors.

Based on the transition to a new Social Services Act, the development work in the unit in the coming years will focus on the ambition to work more preventively, accessibly, and locally anchored within our urban area. This may involve developing collaboration between schools and social services, outreach work with at-risk youth, or providing knowledge support to collaborative actors.

We are now looking for a youth counselor who will engage and support young people in their life situation. The unit works with treatment methods such as RePulse, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Non-Violent Communication (NVC), and Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT). In the role of youth counselor, you will work individually with young people, in collaboration with other colleagues in the unit and/or other services in the area. You will also be in contact with parents and other important adults in the young person's context to make a difference in the young person's life together.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have a university degree in social work, social pedagogy, or another degree deemed equivalent by the employer. Relevant further education in influence programs and/or conversation methodology is considered an asset for the position. A valid B driver's license is also desirable.

Applicants should have acquired knowledge and experience working with young people, families, and surrounding networks. You should have experience and knowledge of social services processes and have worked within or in close collaboration with the service. Experience working within social services with young people and their families and similar assignments in socio-economically disadvantaged areas is an asset for the position. Additionally, experience in outreach work with youth and young adults is also considered an asset.

You will collaborate with many different actors, both from the professional and private networks of the youth. Therefore, you need to have a humble approach and actively contribute to good collaboration. You are confident in leading meetings and mobilizing the network around the youth. Furthermore, you have good knowledge of documentation and possess the ability to structure your tasks and manage your working hours effectively.

You have the ability to work together with others to perform tasks and achieve goals and find it easy to create trusting relationships with young people, parents, and collaborators. For the assignment, it is important that you are solution-oriented and can see opportunities in difficult situations.

Since the work is based on the young people's conditions, some working hours may be scheduled for the evening, so it is important that you have the flexibility regarding working hours and work methods.
