About the Role

We are looking for a school librarian/teacher assistant for the American High School, Essingen. You will play a key role in our organization, where you will help shape the library's content and support the school's administrative work. You will work closely with school management, educators, and other staff – but also independently with significant personal responsibility. Your contribution will be crucial in creating an accessible and pedagogically inspiring library environment for our students.

In this role, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the library – from staffing and lending to cataloging and media management. You will plan and implement reading projects and other activities that enhance students' reading enthusiasm, information literacy, and critical thinking skills. You will support teaching, especially during thematic work or projects, and play an important role in integrating the school library into the educational work. Specifically, you will support our third-year students in their graduation projects.

In addition to your library duties, you will also provide administrative support to the organization and assist our teachers in various ways. Your tasks will also include substituting for lessons when necessary, where materials are prepared by the regular teachers. You will communicate daily in both Swedish and English.

The position is a permanent employment at 75%, with an initial probationary period of 6 months. Start date by agreement.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone with a degree in library and information science or another relevant higher education, such as literature studies. We prefer candidates with experience working in school or public libraries and a good understanding of literature, information retrieval, and source criticism. You have strong skills in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written, are accustomed to working digitally, and have experience with library systems.

To thrive in this role, you need to be a person who appreciates a dynamic environment with a fast pace, where tasks are varied and relationships and collaboration are central. You are unpretentious, solution-focused, meticulous, and have a strong commitment to youth development. You take initiative, have structure in your work, and enjoy contributing ideas that develop the organization.

It is advantageous if you have prior experience in administrative work in a school environment and good experience working with various administrative systems. Educational training and understanding of the school’s governing documents are also a plus.
