Language Caretaker in Swedish with a Focus on Clear Language

Are you a person with both practical and theoretical knowledge of government agencies' clear language work? Do you want to influence how language care in government agencies should develop and be followed up? With us, you will be an important part of an environment characterized by curiosity and knowledge about language care and language policy in a multilingual Sweden. The Institute for Language and Folklore (Isof) is now looking for a language caretaker in Swedish with a focus on clear language for the Language Council department.

About Isof

Isof is a government agency that collects, builds, and disseminates knowledge about language and culture in our multilingual Sweden. We exist for everyone and are a resource for many professional groups, associations, and organizations. We assist the government with documentation and provide support to other agencies.

The Language Council is the department that provides advice and recommendations on public Swedish, publishes language books and writing guides, and researches and disseminates knowledge about the Swedish language and its development.

About the Assignment

As a language caretaker in Swedish with a focus on clear language, you will work with language care and language policy in accordance with Isof's and the Language Council department's mission. The work involves following the development of the Swedish language and government agencies' clear language work in Sweden and providing advice and recommendations based on scientific grounds.

The work includes:

  • promoting, developing, and following up on language care in government agencies in Sweden
  • disseminating knowledge about clear language and the Swedish language community through texts, lectures, media participation, etc.
  • organizing conferences, seminars, etc.
  • monitoring relevant areas, research, media, etc.
  • participating in and exchanging in national and international networks
  • collaborating with other actors in clear language, public administration, and researchers, both within and outside the agency
  • language advice in various channels and forums
  • working with writing rules for government agencies.

Qualification Requirements

You have at least a bachelor's degree in the Swedish language, language consultancy degree, or another degree that the employer assesses as equivalent. You have very good knowledge of and practical experience with clear language work in government. You have extensive knowledge of Swedish societal conditions, public administration, and the Swedish language community. You also have good pedagogical skills and knowledge and experience in project management. You have excellent skills in internal and external communication and have good stylistic ability as well as experience writing in various genres and for different target groups in Swedish and English.

Meritorious

It is meritorious if you have a doctoral education or other advanced level education. It is also meritorious if you have experience in international work, work with evaluating clear language efforts or government language care, and/or work with technical language and terminology.

As a person, you are analytical and results-oriented. You work in an organized manner and plan your work well, completing what you have started and meeting deadlines. You can work independently as well as collaborate with others in an unpretentious and attentive manner. You are creative and like to take your own initiatives. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

Location: Language Council department in Stockholm.

The employment is permanent. We apply a 6-month probationary period.

Start date according to agreement.
