Your mission

As a counselor at the youth clinic in Uppsala County, you will primarily work with individual conversations with young people aged 12–22 who seek help on their own. Young people come to the youth clinic for both sexual and mental and/or social issues. The work at the youth clinic is always team-based, where different professions support each other to work holistically.

An important part of the job is to assess the need for support and appropriate care level, help the youth to the right institution, and create contacts and collaborations around the youth with parents, municipalities, social services, schools, primary care, or psychiatry. You should have a good ability to meet young people in a curious and trusting way and work with our mission, which primarily involves providing advice and support, but also, based on a good alliance, be able to conduct limited treatment interventions in the area of sexual health. An important part of the work consists of outreach and preventive measures, such as school visits and information about the services to both young people and professionals in the area. You will participate in joint supervision and meetings with other counselors at the youth clinics in the county.

Our operations

The youth clinics in Uppsala County belong to the administration Close Care and Health in Region Uppsala. There are a total of 9 youth clinics in the county, and we target young people aged 12-22 who seek help on their own.

The clinics are often located in premises connected to various health centers around the county, but not always. At the clinics, counselors work together with midwives and doctors. Together, we help young people achieve good health both physically, mentally, socially, and sexually. We strive to meet each young person respectfully and knowledgeably in a permissive atmosphere. The youth clinic is directed specifically at young people and their specific needs. The youth clinic always operates on the initiative of the young people themselves, and compliance with the youth is high.

Your qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work and several years of experience in psychosocial work with children and youth, preferably from social services and/or youth clinics. Basic psychotherapy training (level 1) and experience in treatment work are advantageous. Also, sexual health competence, including good knowledge of LGBTQI+ issues, is strongly meritorious when working at the youth clinic. You are welcome to be a licensed health and medical care counselor or in the application process for licensure.

As a person, you should be genuinely interested in working with young people, willing to work in interdisciplinary teams, and eager to develop the operations. You are secure, communicative, and flexible in your professional role. Your ability to create contacts and collaborate with young people, parents, and other actors is very important. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
