Personal Assistant for 14-year-old Boy with Muscular Disease

Kooperativet Hand i Hand is a member-driven organization that was formed in 1995 for individuals entitled to assistance. Our members are located in Skåne, Halland, southern Småland, Västra Götaland, Stockholm, and Jämtland. We have offices in Halmstad, Hässleholm, and Malmö. We support our members with everything from applying for hours with the Social Insurance Office/municipality to personnel issues regarding personal assistants. We believe that the work of a personal assistant is one of the most important jobs there is, as it provides an opportunity for another person, an opportunity that allows them to live their life like everyone else.

We are looking for personal assistants who are interested in stepping in when regular assistants are off duty. In the spring, there will be an opportunity for a one-month substitute position if interested. As the boy requires assistance around the clock, the schedule is divided into different shifts where you will work days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

The boy you will be working with is 14 years old. He goes to school, spends time with friends, and plays a lot of video games. If you have an interest in gaming, that is a big plus. The workplace is where the boy is, and your tasks will involve helping with what his body cannot do on its own.

The boy has a muscular disease, which means he needs help with physical needs such as hygiene, mobility, exercise, and similar activities. As a person, we want you to be flexible and very attentive. It is important that you can keep up in the gaming world and be quick to press buttons that the boy cannot reach on his own. Since the boy's speech is weakened, it is important that you understand and speak Swedish as your native language. Otherwise, he is like any other 14-year-old with his own will and a significant influence in his own assistance.

A driver's license is required. You must be a non-smoker and be able to consider that the boy is allergic to dogs. We place great emphasis on personal chemistry and that you fit in with the other assistants in the group.

Your employment will begin with training where you will shadow a regular assistant until you feel comfortable with the tasks.
