Assistant for a Joyful 7-Year-Old with Muscle Disease

The cooperative Hand in Hand is a member-driven organization that was formed in 1995 for individuals entitled to assistance. Our members are located in Skåne, Halland, southern Småland, Västra Götaland, Stockholm, and Jämtland. We have offices in Halmstad, Hässleholm, and Malmö. We support our members with everything from applying for hours with the Social Insurance Office/municipality to personnel matters concerning personal assistants. We believe that the work of a personal assistant is one of the most important jobs as it provides an opportunity for another person to live their life like everyone else.

The girl has a congenital muscle disease (SMA type 1) and is generally weak in her entire body.

As an assistant to this cheerful and playful girl, you will help her live as the 7-year-old she is. She is happy, playful, active, determined, cuddly, and wants to be where the action is. The work includes lifting and positioning, breathing exercises, mucus suction, cough machine, tube feeding, as well as training and lots of laughter and play.

We do not require any formal education or experience, but she needs an assistant who is proactive and has the desire to together create a functioning life for both everyday and special occasions. However, it is important to be able to handle the Swedish language in speech and writing for communication to work.

We prefer that you are vaccinated against covid-19 as the girl can become seriously ill from infections.

The position is full-time 100% currently during daytime, both weekdays and weekends, but in the future also nights. According to the current schedule, you work two weekdays and one weekend one week and three weekdays the other week. Your workplace is where she is, varying from home to school to meeting relatives and friends to rehabilitation and outings, but always starting from home.

A driver's license and car are advantageous as we live a bit outside the city.
