Department Academic Children's Hospital

Small hearts need great care! We are a small hospital in the big one, and it is in the small that our greatness resides. Here, all the expertise a sick child may need is accommodated, along with good cooperation, respect, and care. We offer a really good introduction for newcomers and many interesting opportunities for development. There is also unexpectedly much joy in what can sometimes be very difficult. We take care of the children and their families, and we take care of each other – because we know that we do a much better job together!

Our operations

The Academic Children's Hospital is a workplace with high morale and skilled employees. Within the Children's Hospital, there are various sections such as oncology, neurology, surgery, and specialized pediatrics. The pediatric section, besides special educators, consists of occupational therapists, dietitians, speech therapists, physiotherapists, counselors, psychologists, and preschool teachers in play therapy. The activities include planned and emergency care for county, national, and regional patients.

Your mission

Through project funding from the RCC (Regional Cancer Center), we have been able to appoint a project position with a focus on pediatric oncology. For the past three years, the RCC has been funding an ongoing project where a special educator has developed a new approach to provide support in school for children treated for oncological diseases. Your efforts and test results will be documented in the hospital's journal system. We are now looking for a special educator to continue the project employment as our current special educator is retiring. The project aims, among other things, to design, test, and evaluate working methods and, together with a permanent colleague, continue working based on the model already developed. The assignment also includes assisting in implementing the work structure at other hospitals in the Healthcare Region Central Sweden and providing education and support to professionals working on school issues.

Your qualifications

You are a trained special educator/special teacher with a basic education in primary or secondary school and at least 5 years of work experience as a special educator/special teacher.

As a special educator, you need to be well-versed in the school's policy documents to advocate for students' right to support in school. Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing is important as you will have a significant role in, for example, school meetings. You should have good collaboration skills as you will work closely with other healthcare personnel around the patient. Since this is a project employment, you need to be motivated to drive the project forward and develop the operations. Great emphasis is placed on independence and personal suitability.

We offer

We offer a project employment, full-time during the period 2025-03-01 – 2027-12-31. Entry by agreement.

Prior to employment, extracts from the suspicion and criminal records will be taken.

With us, you get benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
