About the American Gymnasium, Uppsala
The school is centrally located in the Luthagen area. The school is now in its third academic year and has approximately 260 students studying in the Natural Sciences, Economics, or Social Sciences programs. Instruction is conducted in both English and Swedish by a competent teaching staff with a strong sense of community.
About the Position
As a special education teacher, you will work as part of the school's student health team and be an important part of the proactive and preventive work. You will also work operationally to support teachers in teaching situations, where classroom visits are an important part of the daily routine. You ensure that students receive the right support and that teachers have the right knowledge to structure their teaching so that it is accessible to all students.
You will also work closely with the school management and be an extended arm in ensuring that teachers and students have the right conditions for success. Together with the school management, you will be responsible for planning and driving support work at the individual, group, and organizational levels, as well as for students in need of special support. In collaboration with teachers and guardians, you will assist in adapting studies for students. You will establish action plans and conduct investigations, such as pedagogical assessments, as needed. You will also provide support to principals in school development issues and actively participate in the school's development work. You will support students with structure, planning, and study techniques. We expect you to have a good familiarity with compensatory aids and competence regarding digital learning tools.
The position is a permanent employment initially at 40%, with the possibility of increasing hours in the fall if the position can be combined with another assignment at the school. The position begins with a 6-month probationary period. Start date according to agreement.
Your Profile
We are looking for someone who is a trained special education teacher with a degree, preferably also with a teaching license. Previous experience in the profession is required. It is also advantageous if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in establishing action plans and conducting pedagogical investigations, as well as good knowledge of and experience working with students with reading and writing difficulties. You also have knowledge of and experience with language-developing methods. You maintain a professional approach in interactions with students, colleagues, and guardians and have a good understanding of people's different circumstances. You find it easy to collaborate and create good working relationships with a coaching and guiding approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented. You see opportunities and always lead challenges and problems toward solutions. You maintain a consistently positive attitude.

You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written. You have the ability to use a wide range of digital teaching materials and possess a solid digital competence.
