School Lawyer

Are you a lawyer driven by making a difference in essential community services? Then you could be our new school lawyer!

Who are we?

The Education Office is part of the municipality's education organization, working with issues related to preschool, primary school, after-school care, adapted primary and secondary schools, and secondary schools.

The position of school lawyer is located in the Support Unit, which is one of four departments that serve as support functions to the core operations of the Education Office.

The main tasks of the Support Unit are to prepare cases for the Education Committee in a factual and impartial manner and assist the Education Committee in its responsibilities. The Support Unit also ensures effective and legally secure administrative practices in accordance with laws and regulations, providing quality-assured administrative processes and routines so that managers and employees can focus on core activities.

As one of our colleagues moves on to new challenges, we are looking for a driven and committed school lawyer who wants to help develop our expert team. Our team consists of 13 employees, and together we provide support to both the political committee and the operational and school management with processes, projects, and investigations of various kinds.

Our workgroup possesses a broad competence, and we enjoy collaborating with each other. We are located in pleasant and centrally located premises at St. Persgatan 95.

Your tasks

In your role as a school lawyer, you and another lawyer at the Education Office will work with legal issues across a broad field, focusing on school law and public law, but civil law issues may also arise.

You will work with legal questions based on school legislation and other related legislation. Furthermore, you will work on opinions to the School Inspectorate and other authorities, complaint handling, and litigation in general administrative courts.

You will support the managers and principals of the Education Office in legal matters, contribute to the development and assurance of routines within the Education Committee, and monitor legal developments. You will also present cases in the Education Committee and provide legal advice and training to school leaders and staff.

You will collaborate closely with the child rights ombudsman, the municipality's city lawyers, and data protection officers, reporting to the head of the Support Unit, who is your immediate supervisor, as well as the education director.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with a degree from a law program, such as a law degree, business law program, or similar education as assessed by the employer. You have experience working as a lawyer, preferably in the public sector, and we view positively if you have previously worked with school law and/or have clerkship qualifications.

You have good knowledge of administrative law, public law, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We also appreciate knowledge in municipal law and school legislation.

As a person, you are analytical with a good ability to quickly understand various issues and make wise decisions based on available information. You are meticulous, have a focus on operations, and care about delivering quality in your work.

As you will support others in legal matters, we see that you are attentive and service-oriented in your approach. You have a pedagogical ability and adapt your communication style based on the individual and the situation. You find it easy to collaborate with others, contributing your competence and positive energy to the team.

The position requires you to be skilled in expressing yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
