Statistician at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

The Statistics Section is part of the Agency Management Office. The section consists of 15 employees, and its main task is to drive and develop the agency's overall statistical operations. This includes being responsible for developing and ensuring the conditions for monitoring operations. The work also involves producing various types of analyses and statistical publications to contribute to a transparent and knowledge-driven correctional system. Additionally, the section participates in various development projects, such as creating a comprehensive monitoring/BI solution for the agency.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a statistician at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you will work on monitoring and analyzing operations, for example, by producing statistical publications. You will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop analytical work that contributes knowledge both within and outside the organization. Other tasks include contributing to the section's mission by producing and ensuring the quality of monitoring materials, responding to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, and participating in assignments and projects. Another part of the job is to assess and analyze the consequences that changes in the agency's mission and regulations may entail.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree in statistics or another equivalent education that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
  • Several years of experience working with statistical analysis that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
  • Experience in independent investigative work
  • Experience presenting statistical data
  • Experience collaborating with other professional groups
  • Good knowledge of a statistical tool
  • Knowledge of programming
  • Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish

It is a merit if you have:

  • Experience working with and driving development issues
  • Experience working with registry data
  • Experience in statistical work within public operations
  • Good knowledge of SAS programming

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. To work with us, you need to undergo a security clearance in accordance with the Security Protection Act. The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance, including a security interview with a background check, will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. During the security clearance, you will be investigated as a person, your background, and your relationships from a security perspective. You need to be a Swedish citizen, but you are welcome to have a foreign background. You will receive more information about the security clearance during your job interview.
