The core operations of the Swedish Customs are divided into four departments: Control, Customs Crime, Intelligence, and Collection.

Swedish Customs is now seeking case officers for the Control Department, located in the Internal Control Group in Malmö.

Internal control is the part of the Control Department responsible for ensuring that the correct customs duties and other fees are charged for goods entering and leaving the country, as well as for monitoring compliance with import and export regulations. The ultimate mission is to ensure that only approved goods pass through Sweden's borders.

About the position

As a case officer within internal control, your main tasks will involve ensuring that companies and individuals comply with customs regulations by reviewing and clearing customs declarations.

You will work in the Control Department's clearance expeditions in uniform or in an office landscape. The work is varied and includes everything from expedition work, various types of administrative tasks, as well as some physical inspections in the form of goods examinations and checks in postal and courier flows.

As a case officer, you will make various forms of government decisions. The work is performed in several different digital systems and involves contact with companies, individuals, and other authorities. New questions and situations require you as a case officer to be flexible and solution-oriented.

Right now, Swedish Customs is undergoing an exciting but extensive transformation to introduce new customs legislation with accompanying new systems. This means that you must be curious and eager to learn new things. It also means that you will need to work with a variety of digital systems and keep track of various legislations over an extended period.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A completed upper secondary education and at least three years of work experience
  • and/or:
  • A completed qualified vocational education/college education in forwarding, logistics, economics, law, or alternatively studies of at least 60 credits / 90 higher education credits with a focus on forwarding, logistics, economics, law, political science, or other education that the employer deems equivalent

You should also have:

  • Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Good knowledge of the Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Swedish driving license, class B for passenger cars, not automatic transmission, and good driving experience

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Work experience in case management or case administration from another public sector, or similar tasks within the private sector
  • Experience in customs-related work within the last 10 years, e.g., from the forwarding industry or from operations dealing with foreign trade
  • Experience in service work or similar tasks, such as customer contact work
  • A third language, in addition to Swedish and English

Education and employment

During your first two months as an employee, you will undergo basic training primarily conducted at your place of employment as distance education. There will also be in-person meetings that may take place at other locations, which will involve some travel and overnight stays. Employment begins with a six-month probationary period. After a successful probation period, a permanent position will be offered unless otherwise agreed.
