Systems Engineer at FOI
FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is an agency under the Ministry of Defence, tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, as well as investigations to support total defense, disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. Our activities are primarily commissioned by the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have approximately 1400 employees, of which over 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.
Would you like to work on exciting projects with technology for defense and security? Can you analyze complex systems and understand the essentials? Do you understand the connection between today's technological developments and future applications? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the Position
As a systems engineer, you will work with the evaluation of today's and tomorrow's guided weapons, addressing how different subsystems function and how they interact to provide the best effect, as well as how existing systems should be utilized against various threats. The work also involves developing future system solutions and identifying research and capability needs.
You will be part of a larger group of researchers where scientific methodology permeates the work. You have a broad technical interest and understand how different subsystems interact and contribute to a system's performance, as well as how physical phenomena affect system capability. Perhaps you are one of our future project leaders. Our knowledge is used in various ways to support the agency's clients, from expert support in investigations to providing foundations for the evaluation and procurement of the Armed Forces' future systems.
About the Unit
You will join the Guided Weapons unit, which belongs to the Defence Technology department in Kista. Please read more about what we do: Defence Technology (https://www.foi.se/jobba-hos-oss.html).
In the unit, we conduct research on guidance, navigation, and vehicle dynamics. We work with studies, analyses, and evaluations, primarily of weapon systems. Applications range from modeling and simulation of hypersonic weapons to developing alternative methods for navigation. The unit's work aims to analyze the performance and capability of today's systems and to develop and evaluate new concepts for future defense.
