Workplace Description

The research group consists of Professor Pia Maly Sundgren (neuroradiologist), an MR physicist, and a university lecturer (MR physicist), along with a couple of postdocs and several PhD students.

We have a close collaboration with neurosurgeons, oncologists, and neurologists. The group has a broad research focus on the use of advanced MRI methods to study brain tumors concerning diagnostics and treatment effects on the brain during brain tumor treatment.

Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

Project Description

As a PhD candidate with us, you will conduct four sub-studies within the framework of the PhD project Advanced CEST Imaging, focusing on brain tumors. You will further develop and study the MR APT-weighted sequence for fluid-suppressed APTw, MRI, and hydroxyl-weighted CEST MRI to differentiate between various tumor types in the brain. You will also study other proteins within the Z-spectrum during APTw imaging and publish four papers.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for the position:

  • You are currently studying in the medical program at least in semester 10 or have completed your studies in the medical program.
  • You have completed or are in the process of completing a master's thesis in radiology.
  • You have previously been involved in radiological research and contributed to the publication of at least one article.
  • You have experience with MATLAB, OLEA post-processing analysis systems, and can code.
  • You have good knowledge of interpreting MR images of brain tumors.
  • You possess solid MR physics knowledge in APT-weighted MR imaging.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • You have an MR license.
  • You have completed MR safety training.

Other Information

We are now seeking a PhD candidate for a 100% fixed-term position for 4 years, according to HF Chapter 5, Section 7. The desired start date is June 1, 2025, or by agreement.

Eligibility

Basic eligibility for doctoral education is granted to those who have: completed a degree at the advanced level, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or in some other way acquired equivalent knowledge in or outside the country.

Assessment Criteria

Regulations for employment as a PhD candidate can be found in the ordinance SFS 1998:80. Only those who are admitted to doctoral education may be appointed. In the appointment process, emphasis will primarily be placed on the ability to benefit from the doctoral education. In addition to the obligation to engage in their own doctoral education, the holder may be required to perform duties related to education, research, and administrative work according to specific provisions in the ordinance.

Conditions

Fixed-term employment for four years according to HF Chapter 5, Section 7.
