NBV Syd is looking for a dedicated and experienced circle leader in music for our initiative on forbidden music – an educational and artistic whole that through two different projects raises questions about freedom of expression, exile, identity, and the power of music.

The initiative consists of two projects:

• The Forbidden Melodies (supported by the Postcode Foundation)
• The Forbidden Music (supported by the Inheritance Fund)

You will play a key role in both projects – as an educator, coordinator, and stage participant.

Responsibilities:

• Teach and guide participants in music, focusing on singing and Afghan traditional music
• Lead music circles within NBV's study activities
• Participate as a singer in the performance The Forbidden Melodies
• Act as a musical coordinator for the Afghan musicians in the ensemble
• Participate in planning, rehearsals, and concert tours in various parts of Sweden during 2025–2026

We are looking for someone who has:

• Solid musical competence and experience as a singer
• Pedagogical experience in leading groups in music
• Understanding of and preferably experience working with exile, migration, or culture in resistance
• Knowledge of Afghan music tradition is a requirement
• Good language skills in Dari and/or Pashto are a big plus

Employment type:

Permanent position, full-time (100%) starting as soon as possible by agreement.

Work location:

Base in Malmö. Tours and travel within Sweden will occur.

About NBV's initiative:

In Afghanistan, music is currently completely forbidden. Through these projects, NBV gives space to forbidden melodies and silenced voices. We unite music, folk education, and performing arts to create space for resistance, storytelling, and reflection on the conditions of artistic freedom – both globally and in Sweden.
