Job Responsibilities

You will belong to the Department of Materials and Structural Mechanics.

The department has a structural and a strength laboratory, both of which are part of Odqvist (https://www.kth.se/sci/centra/centra/odqvist) at KTH.

This position involves primarily working at the strength laboratory. Testing and development of experimental methods are of great importance to our research. We have experimental equipment and workshops of very high quality, and we develop our own experimental methods and rigs. Our testing is often unique, and we are therefore not a certified laboratory. Nevertheless, we must meet very high standards for the quality of testing.

We are now looking for a testing engineer who can plan laboratory activities, develop project plans, advance experimental activities, construct test setups, and conduct testing in collaboration with the institution's researchers and external clients. The work also includes quoting, performing, and reporting on external advanced testing assignments.

Training of staff in testing and training of students at both basic and advanced levels, conducting laboratory work within education, especially during thesis work and laboratory sessions, is also included.

You are expected to stay well-informed about the latest advancements in measuring strength-related quantities, especially at small structural length scales, and work on developing the laboratory resources. Microscopy and image processing skills are also required.

The tasks must be performed independently as well as in close collaboration with others. The position is not intended for personal research.

Qualifications

Requirements

Master's degree or equivalent in Structural Mechanics or a related field.
Documented experience in laboratory work or workshop operations, or equivalent competence.
Good knowledge of Swedish and English. Our official language is Swedish, which requires that your Swedish is proficient. We have employees who do not speak Swedish, which requires that you also have good knowledge of English.

Desirable

We are leaders in fracture mechanical testing. Documented experience in this area is an advantage.
Our testing machines are powered by electricity or hydraulics. Documented experience in operating or servicing these types of machines is an advantage. Experience with pumps and hydraulic piping systems is also advantageous.
Experience in measuring mechanical and thermal quantities, as well as general knowledge of measurement technology and measurement systems is desirable.
Good communication skills, both verbally and in report form.
You have demonstrated the ability to collaborate and are responsive to the organization’s needs.
You can solve tasks with a high degree of independence.
Awareness of diversity and equality issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

About the Position
