Scientific Environment

Uppsala hosts one of the world’s leading scientific environments in theranostics and radionuclide imaging and therapy, comprising the Uppsala university hospital, Uppsala University and a thriving biotech sector. In the role of researcher, you will contribute to excellent science while collaborating closely with faculty, clinicians and technicians at Uppsala University (https://www.uu.se/en/department/medicinal-chemistry/research/research-areas/translational-pet-imaging (https://www.uu.se/en/department/medicinal-chemistry/research/research-areas/translational-pet-imaging)) and Uppsala university hospital.

Work description

In your role as researcher, you will work independently in preclinical and clinical projects to develop, evaluate, and validate novel theranostic radiopharmaceuticals in oncological applications. “Theranostics” is a combination of the words “therapy” and “diagnostics,” and means the use of radioisotopes to first image a patient's tumor for diagnostics and then therapeutically treat that tumor with radioligand therapy.

The main duties are to be responsible for dedicated research projects. You will have close mentorship and leadership from senior faculty, as well as technical support from lab technicians, staff scientists and junior colleagues. You are encouraged to regularly present your research at scientific conferences and high impact journals. You are expected to contribute to applications for preclinical or regulatory approvals for your projects. The work duties may also include supervision of PhD students or M.Sc. students.

Qualification required

We welcome applications from candidates that have a PhD degree in fields encompassing any part of radionuclide imaging and/or therapy. The assessment of applications is based primarily on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on documented scientific skill. Completed courses in laboratory animal science and/or radiation protection are an advantage. The applicant must be fluent in English with excellent communication skills. Furthermore, it is advantageous if you have laboratory experience with preclinical tumor models e.g. xenografts.

To succeed and thrive in the role, you need to be meticulous and responsible, and independently plan and carry out your work. We appreciate qualities such as flexibility and a stress tolerance. You need to be responsive, good at collaborating and have a desire to contribute to our positive working climate.
