JOB DESCRIPTION

As a probation officer, you are responsible for clients released on conditional release and clients sentenced to probation who are under supervision. The probation service is also responsible for intensive supervision with electronic monitoring, known as an ankle monitor, and community service. The work within probation largely consists of investigative work, conducting risk and needs assessments, and establishing plans for execution. You will also work to lead treatment programs for probation clients.

As a probation officer, you actively participate in influencing work directed towards clients, among other things through structured conversations based on CBT, motivating participation in program activities, and assisting in release preparations for clients incarcerated in prison. Your duties also include conducting personal investigations and providing opinions to the court and suggesting appropriate sanctions.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good self-awareness. You have a good understanding of how people absorb knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages according to the recipient's conditions. In your professional practice, you have good judgment and integrity. As a probation officer, you need to have good collaboration skills and be able to communicate clearly. You will be responsible for multiple processes at once, which requires you to thrive in juggling many tasks and maintaining good structure in your work. You should also be able to adapt quickly and be flexible, as the work may involve rapid changes. You should also have a physical status that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it.

To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for someone who has:

• A university degree (at least a bachelor's level) preferably in behavioral science, law, social work, or social sciences, or another academic education combined with experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
• Good knowledge of using the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• A valid driver's license (B).

It is an advantage if you have:

• Well-documented work experience in corrections, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work.
• Relevant language skills.
• Experience in case management.
• Experience in investigative work.
• Experience in social treatment work.
• Experience in execution planning.
• Experience in CBT-based interventions.
• Experience with KrimStics.
• Experience working with MI (Motivational Interviewing).
