University Lecturer in Social Science

Gaskeuniversiteete/Mittuniversitetet is located in the heart of the South Sámi area in Saepmie. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary institution with operations at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The activities include research and education in subjects such as English, Gender Studies, History, Criminology, Literary Studies, Social Science, Sociology, Political Science, Swedish as a Second Language, and the Swedish Language. Research is conducted within each subject as well as within the Risk and Crisis Research Center (RCR), the Forum for Gender Studies (FGV), and DEMICOM.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a university lecturer include teaching and supervising students at the basic level in social science.

Teaching is conducted both on campus in Sundsvall and Östersund and remotely, preferably within teacher training programs. The position includes professional development and administration according to applicable working time agreements and local guidelines.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a university lecturer in social science is either someone who has obtained a master's degree in sociology, political science, or another subject closely related to social science, preferably with a (social science) didactic focus, corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits, and/or someone who has obtained a subject teacher's degree containing at least 120 credits in social science or equivalent. Furthermore, the applicant must have either completed higher education pedagogical training or teacher training, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge, and demonstrated pedagogical skills.

Being able to teach in Swedish and having a high presence at the workplace is a requirement.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for the employment of a university lecturer are the degree of such competence that is a requirement for eligibility for the position. The assessment of pedagogical skills should receive equal attention as the assessment of other eligibility criteria.

Previous experience of teaching social science or related subjects at the university level is meritorious for the position. Experience of teaching social science at the secondary or high school level is also meritorious.

Personal Qualities

As the position involves a lot of student contact and collaboration with colleagues, social competence, good collaborative skills, and good communication skills are important. Since the position will include course responsibility and teaching in several different courses simultaneously, you need to be able to work independently, be flexible, and have a good ability to plan your work.

Other Assessment Criteria

Experience working with IT systems for distance education at the university level is meritorious.
