University Lecturer in Social Studies
Gaskeuniversiteete/Mittuniversitetet is located in the heart of the South Sámi area in Saepmie. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is a cross-regional institution with operations at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The activities include research and education in subjects such as English, Gender Studies, History, Criminology, Literary Studies, Social Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Swedish as a Second Language, and the Swedish Language. Research is conducted within each subject as well as within the Risk and Crisis Research Center (RCR), the Gender Studies Forum (FGV), and DEMICOM.
Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities of a university lecturer include teaching and supervising students at the basic level in social studies.
Teaching is conducted both on campus in Sundsvall and Östersund and remotely, preferably within teacher education programs. The position includes professional development and administration according to applicable working time agreements and local guidelines.
Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a university lecturer in social studies is either someone who has obtained a master's degree in sociology, political science, or another subject closely related to social studies, preferably with a (social studies) didactic orientation, corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits, and/or someone who has obtained a subject teacher's degree containing at least 120 credits in social studies or equivalent. Furthermore, the applicant must either have completed higher education pedagogical training or teacher education, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge, and demonstrated pedagogical skill.
The ability to teach in Swedish and a high presence at the workplace is a requirement.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment criteria for the employment of a university lecturer are the degree of such skill that is a requirement for eligibility for the position. The evaluation of pedagogical skill should be given equal care as the evaluation of other eligibility-related conditions.
Previous experience of teaching social studies or related subjects at the university level is meritorious for the position. Experience of teaching social studies at the secondary school or high school level is also meritorious.
Personal Qualities
Since the position involves a lot of student contact and collaboration with colleagues, social competence, good teamwork skills, and good communication skills are important. As the position will involve course responsibility and teaching in several different courses simultaneously, you need to be able to work independently, be flexible, and have a good ability to plan your work.
Other Assessment Criteria
Experience working with IT systems for distance education at the university level is meritorious.
