University Lecturer in Public Health Science

The Department of Health Sciences operates at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The department educates and conducts research in a range of subjects, focusing on humans, health, and well-being.

The department offers courses, undergraduate programs, and advanced level education. Our undergraduate programs include the Public Health Science program, the Sports Science program, the Mental Health program, the Health and Rehabilitation in Working Life program, and the Nursing program. Research is multidisciplinary and is conducted in the fields of public health science, sports science, medical science, nursing, and rehabilitation science, as well as at the National Winter Sports Centre (NVC).

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include course management, teaching, supervision, and examination of students primarily within the subject's courses at the undergraduate and advanced levels.

The work also includes participation in program and subject development as well as the development of online courses. Furthermore, the work involves active participation in the department's development work, administration, and the research environment of the subject. The courses are primarily offered as distance education without physical meetings, which means web-based communication on Mid Sweden University's learning platform.

Qualifications

Eligibility for employment as a university lecturer requires a doctoral degree in public health science or equivalent scientific competence, completion of higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge, and demonstrated pedagogical skills (MIUN's employment regulations).

The successful candidate must be able to perform administrative and pedagogical tasks that require an understanding of and the ability to use the Swedish language, as all courses and programs are conducted in Swedish.

Other Requirements

Possess good communication and collaboration skills, flexibility, and the ability to express oneself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for the appointment of a lecturer will be the degree of such competence required for eligibility for the position. Equal care will be given to the assessment of pedagogical skills as to scientific skills.

Applicants will be assessed based on pedagogical skills and other eligibility requirements mentioned above. Experience in course management, various pedagogical methods, and distance education at the university level, as well as teaching experience in public health science, is particularly meritorious. Experience in supervising student theses and knowledge and experience in teaching social epidemiology, health economics, quantitative and qualitative research methodology are also meritorious.

As the subject is highly research-active, it is also advantageous if the applicant conducts research in the subject's three prioritized areas: 1. Health of children and adolescents, 2. Work life and health, and 3. Global health.

Employment and Start Date

The position is a full-time temporary appointment starting from 2025-08-18 or by agreement, but no later than 2027-01-31.
