Job Advertisement: Teacher in Swedish/SVA and Additional Subject(s)

The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) is an authority responsible for individually adapted compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse. SiS also implements secure youth care. We do this in youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse across the country. At SiS, your work life becomes an exciting challenge. Regardless of where in our organization you work or what position you hold, you contribute to creating life-changing transformations.

SiS youth home Långanäs receives non-compulsory school-age girls and boys with psychosocial issues, criminality, and substance abuse.

Job Description

Do you want to be part of building a school operation in new school facilities? Now is your chance to influence students' futures and education in a creative and enabling school environment. SiS youth home Långanäs is expanding the school with a completely new school building and is therefore looking for a driven and committed teacher in Swedish/SVA and additional subject(s).

The school operations within SiS follow the same regulations as the rest of the school system. The school is responsible for the education of all enrolled youth. The young people residing in the youth home should receive the education they need and are entitled to. The placed youth are between 16-20 years old. Almost all teaching occurs within the framework of introductory programs; individual alternatives, but there may also be compulsory school students and students within the framework of adapted school. All students have an individual study plan where they, together with a mentor and study and career counselor, set goals and study basic and/or upper secondary common subjects based on their needs. Teaching is conducted full-time in smaller teaching groups.

A positive approach and belief in each individual's potential for development are important. The students have varying experiences and results from previous schooling, which means that teaching needs to be based on good pedagogical relationships, be motivation-creating, and conducted based on the knowledge assignment. You plan, implement, follow up, and document the teaching and are well-grounded in all parts of the curricula and grading. Mentorship may be included in the position.

You work in a team with health care personnel and treatment staff. You also have contact with home schools, social services, and, whenever possible, the students' parents. The institution has several complementary competencies, and as a teacher, you are part of a cross-professional and collaborative effort regarding the youth. Collaboration with, for example, nurses, treatment pedagogues, and psychologists is therefore an important part of your tasks. Many of us work together with care and have a holistic perspective regarding the youth.

As a new employee, we create a solid introduction program focusing on safety and the ethical aspects of the work to provide the right conditions for success in your role with us. There are also good opportunities for professional growth and development in your work.

Qualifications

You should:

  • be a licensed teacher in Swedish/SVA and additional subject(s) for the later years of compulsory school and/or upper secondary school
  • have the ability to plan, teach, and follow up on your teaching.
  • have experience in pedagogical work in a school environment.
  • have a B driver's license.

Meritorious are:

  • complementary subjects alongside Swedish/SVA such as history, religion, home economics, wood and metal crafts, and art.
  • documented special educational knowledge; insight into various diagnoses, experience working with youth in need of special support and institutional care.
  • previous work within introductory programs or work in special teaching groups.
  • being proficient in multiple languages.

You need to be attracted to teaching and building trusting pedagogical relationships in smaller teaching groups consisting of students with psychosocial issues and criminality. It is important that you can identify and meet the student's needs with high realistic expectations and motivate and lead the student towards their goals. We prefer that you are unpretentious, flexible, can set and maintain boundaries respectfully, and have faith that all students can find a way to education and work.

You are secure, stable, and calm, even in stressful situations. You have good collaboration skills, high social competence, and a positive view of students. You also understand the importance of adapting to changing circumstances and see the benefits of changes.

You are proactive and participate in the development work to achieve the school's goals and always take responsibility for your tasks by planning, organizing, and prioritizing your work effectively. The work requires that you have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing and that you consider adapting communication depending on the recipient.

We place great importance on personal suitability.

At SiS, we care about good employee cooperation. This means that you, as an employee, take responsibility for your work, contribute to development, and participate in good collaboration. Read more about our employee cooperation.
