Curator for Västerås Museums

Do you want to help develop Västerås museums into inspiring and relevant destinations? We are now looking for an engaged curator who wants to work operationally but also strategically to develop our operations and public offerings.

Your Responsibilities

As a business developer with coordination responsibility, you will work for all Västerås museums and their operations at Anundshög, Vallby Open Air Museum, and Västerås Art Museum. Your strategic focus is to develop these places as knowledge providers, brands, and destinations.

You will coordinate and develop public activities in collaboration with the public teams in the units of Art and Cultural Heritage, aiming to strengthen each destination and create a unified identity for Västerås museums. Through strategic efforts, you will engage different target groups and develop information and marketing work to optimize how the destinations package their offerings. The work includes both digital platforms and physical visits, where you participate in programs, events, and activities to reach a broad audience.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in art, culture, cultural heritage, museology, or another relevant field. You have experience working in museums and/or the tourism industry with cultural heritage, art, or equivalent, as well as experience working with public activities where you have created information to engage various target groups. You have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.

We would like you to have good awareness of current issues in the museum sector and experience in coordinating operations and creating effective workflows. It is considered an advantage if you have a network within the tourism, culture, or museum sector as well as editorial experience. Experience in project management training and/or project management and experience in applying for external funding is a plus.

As a person, you are responsible and engaged. We place great importance on you being positive and communicative. You can work independently but also have a strong ability to collaborate and are attentive. Your approach is service-oriented, where you help others with commitment and a solution-focused attitude.

We Offer

In the Västerås museums unit, you will be part of a competent team consisting of about thirty specialists in art and cultural heritage.

Västerås museums are part of the Culture, Sports, and Leisure Administration and operate on behalf of the Cultural Committee. Västerås museums gather the city's activities in art and cultural heritage and operate at three of Västmanland's most popular destinations:

• Anundshög – magnificent remains of a Viking Age power center. One of Sweden's most prominent archaeological sites.
• Vallby Open Air Museum – cultural historical environments that recreate life from the 17th century onwards, with buildings, native livestock, and cultural plants.
• Västerås Art Museum – a museum for Swedish and Nordic contemporary art, which is also responsible for the city's public art.
