Your workplace
Department 59 is a stroke unit where we primarily care for patients who have suffered from stroke and TIA, transient ischemic attack. Expertise in stroke and TIA is present in the team consisting of doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, and neuropsychologists. The team collaborates on the acute phase, care, and rehabilitation. Adjacent to the department is a smaller stroke clinic staffed by nurses from the department.
The stroke unit is located in building 2 with fresh and purpose-built facilities. The workgroup has great variation. Several of our employees have worked in the department for many years and have extensive experience in stroke care, while others are relatively newly employed.
The department belongs to the Neurology and Rehabilitation Clinic, a small clinic that has close proximity to managers and short decision-making paths. The clinic has its own emergency line at the emergency department, ensuring that patients with neurological issues can receive specialized assessment already at the emergency room. A 24/7 on-call service is also available via phone in case of questions regarding our most urgent treatments.
In the department, two nurses work with special responsibility to ensure that our routines follow the recommendations of the National Board of Health and Welfare, quality registers, training of departmental staff, mentorship, and lecturing at the nursing program at Karlstad University. During the spring and autumn semesters, we often have students in the department, which we see as both exciting and educational. In evaluations, it is reported, "We can ask silly questions without anyone looking askance", "It feels like they trust us", "We have room to develop", and "There is a good atmosphere in department 59".
The department is constantly working to improve care and care pathways for stroke and TIA patients, for example, with new treatment methods and digital solutions. We are particularly proud that we won the 2021 Innovation Award for the application Join.
Your tasks
In department 59, you will either work as a nurse in a patient group or as an emergency nurse responsible for the Save the Brain Alarm. As a nurse, you will be offered individual onboarding. Internal training is held for alarm duties after about a year of experience in the department, and there is also the opportunity for stroke competence training. If you are a newly graduated nurse, a clinical development program (KUP) is included during the first year, and you will also receive guidance from a mentor in the department.
Your skills and competencies
We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse, who enjoys working in a team, and who wants to develop the business together with us. If you have previously worked with stroke care, that is of course a plus.
Having a good approach towards patients, relatives, and colleagues is something we consider a given. To be suitable for the position, you should also be able to plan, organize, and prioritize your tasks effectively, have a good overall perspective, and be good at taking your own initiatives.
