We have a wide range of educational programs to match the skills in demand. We hope you will help us build the sustainable companies and societies of the future.
The research group in Biochemical Process Engineering is seeking a researcher to participate in research on advanced structural characterization of lignin.
Subject Description:
Biochemical Process Engineering focuses on biochemical processes for the production and refinement of chemicals, fuels, and materials from biomass.
Project Description
The research group is responsible for a versatile laboratory with key competencies for bio-based products and processes, including biomass pre-treatment, fractionation, fermentation, conversion processes, green chemistry, upstream and downstream processes. The research subject is part of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering with approximately 350 employees. The subject consists of ten senior researchers and several PhD students.
Job Responsibilities
The work involves performing advanced analytical characterization of lignin samples using advanced instrumentation, including quantitative NMR (¹³C, ¹H, ¹H-¹³C, and ³¹P-NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and pyrolysis-GC-MS. You will interpret and quantify data from various lignin samples, compile detailed reports on their structural properties, and analyze how these correlate with their performance in various lignin-based applications. Furthermore, you will play a central role in the scientific processing and interpretation of results for publications and be responsible for developing and contributing to relevant research applications.
Qualifications
To be qualified for employment, you must have a PhD in biotechnology or another relevant field. Solid expertise in advanced lignin analysis is required, including documented experience with quantitative NMR (¹³C, ¹H, ¹H-¹³C, and ³¹P-NMR), GPC, and pyrolysis-GC-MS, which should be evident from scientific publications. Experience in correlating lignin's structure with its function is highly meritorious. Additionally, documented experience in lignin extraction, particularly through controlled process methods, is a strong merit.
We are looking for someone with a positive attitude towards research and disciplined work habits. You must be able to function both independently and as part of a research team. Good observational and communication skills are important. Furthermore, you should be proficient in English, both spoken and written.
Information
