Investigator at the Institute for Human Rights

We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to an organization tasked with monitoring and ensuring that human rights are respected and realized in Sweden. At the Institute for Human Rights, you will participate in building a new and independent authority with the mission to strengthen the enforcement of human rights. The Institute will also fulfill tasks as an independent national mechanism according to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

About the Institute for Human Rights

We defend and advocate for Sweden to respect, protect, and promote human rights. Our vision is a society where every individual enjoys their human rights.

We started in 2022 and will operate in accordance with the Paris Principles, which are the international standard for national human rights institutions.

Our work is led by a board with a director responsible for the operations at the office located in Lund. The organization consists of three units, and you will be placed in the unit for investigation and analysis.

About the job as an investigator

As an investigator, your work will involve following and analyzing human rights issues, both nationally and internationally. The position also includes monitoring the development and application of legislation and other measures based on human rights and international developments in the field, as well as writing memoranda, background materials for reports, and responses for the Institute. Outreach activities, such as contacts with other authorities and organizations, both nationally and internationally, are also part of the job. As an investigator at the Institute, you need to quickly familiarize yourself with various areas and issues related to human rights.

The Institute for Human Rights is in a phase of establishment. The work will be characterized by ongoing and close dialogue with both colleagues within the authority and with other authorities and actors. Being collaborative, able to work with varying tasks, and functioning in a changing environment is crucial for thriving with us.

Qualifications

To be considered for the job, we want you to:

  • have a relevant degree in social sciences, such as law or political science,
  • have several years of current experience working against racism within civil society or the public sector in Sweden,
  • have experience in dialogue and collaboration with civil society and other actors in the field of human rights,
  • have experience in writing reports, investigations, and responses,
  • have broad and good knowledge in the field of human rights and in-depth knowledge about racial discrimination,
  • have good knowledge of Swedish public administration,
  • have knowledge of methods for working with follow-up, dialogue, and involvement of civil society and other actors.

It is meritorious if you also:

  • have academic education focused on human rights,
  • have experience from international work, e.g., within the framework of the UN, EU,
  • have relevant networks within civil society, academia, or Swedish public sector in the work against racism,
  • have experience in planning and conducting workshops and dialogue meetings,
  • have experience participating in reporting to UN committees,
  • have knowledge of international review processes,
  • have relevant experience from Swedish public administration.

You should have the following abilities

We are looking for someone with good communicative and analytical skills. You write memoranda, reports, investigations, and responses of high quality and are accustomed to making presentations and oral contributions in various contexts. It is necessary to take personal responsibility for driving the work forward within the framework of the assignment and to demonstrate good judgment and the ability to determine what may need to be coordinated and anchored. Furthermore, the work requires the ability to switch between different tasks and prioritize based on a given situation. Collaborating well internally and externally to solve tasks and enjoying creating and maintaining new contacts is a prerequisite for being successful in the assignment.

Temporary employment until February 28, 2026, with immediate start or as agreed. Travel within the framework of the employment may occur.
