About American High School, Halmstad

The school is located within the campus of Halmstad University. This autumn, the school enters its fifth academic year with approximately 160 students studying on the Natural Science, Social Science, or Business programs. Teaching is conducted in both English and Swedish by a competent teaching team with a strong sense of community.

About the Position

As a Study and Career Counselor, you work with individual coaching and guidance for our students. You handle the enrollment of new students, manage our school queue, and maintain contact with new students and guardians. You are responsible for the continuous follow-up of students' graduation forecasts in each grade, handle reporting to CSN (the Swedish Board of Student Finance), and manage other tasks included in the SYV (Study and Career Counselor) role.

You work closely with the school's Student Health Team (EHT) in promoting and preventive work. The EHT includes the school nurse, counselor, special needs educator, and the principal.

The role also involves ongoing school administration and work in various administrative systems such as Meitner, StudyBee, and Google Drive. As a Study and Career Counselor, you primarily work from the front desk where you have most of your conversations with students. You will also have access to a back office for handling certain administrative tasks.

The position is a full-time (100%) temporary assignment until June 2027. Start date as soon as possible or according to agreement.

Your Profile

We are looking for you who are educated as a Study and Career Counselor with a degree, and preferably you who also have at least a couple of years of experience working as a Study and Career Counselor. It is also meritorious if you have worked with high school students. You have experience coaching and guiding students, as well as experience working closely with the Student Health Team. You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing, and you possess solid digital competence.

You have a professional approach in meetings with students, colleagues, and guardians, and good insight into people's different prerequisites. You find it easy to collaborate and create good working relationships with a coaching and supportive working style. As a person, you are solution-oriented, unpretentious, and flexible. You see opportunities and you always steer challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an overall positive approach.
