Area Coordinator for the Red Cross in Bergsjön

About the Red Cross Gothenburg

Our local branch, the Gothenburg Circle, has around 3,000 members and approximately 30 activities made possible and carried out through the commitment of over 380 volunteers. We work, among other things, with involuntary isolation, health and inclusion, basic humanitarian needs, crisis preparedness, second-hand operations, and fundraising. The circle is led by a volunteer board and currently has four employees responsible for operational work.

Do you want to contribute to a more humane Gothenburg?

The Red Cross Gothenburg is looking for an Area Coordinator who wants to strengthen our work in Bergsjön. The role involves both strategic and operational work in close cooperation with residents, associations, authorities, and other local actors. You will report to the Operations Manager.

You will become a key person in the development of the meeting place and work to create a safe, inclusive, and vibrant space where people can meet, engage, and take their own initiatives. Initially, you may lead certain activities yourself until volunteer capacity is in place.

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in people, who wants to engage both themselves and others in cause-driven activities. You thrive in collaborating with volunteers and colleagues to create a warm, inclusive atmosphere, and you enjoy independent work where you are sometimes the only employee on site at the meeting place.

Responsibilities

You will, among other things:

  • Coordinate and develop the Red Cross's area-based work in Bergsjön.
  • Initiate, develop, and strengthen activities within the "Socially Sustainable Societies" program in accordance with the Red Cross's fundamental principles and values.
  • Recruit, onboard, and support volunteers.
  • Plan and conduct volunteer meetings and other activities.
  • Build and maintain collaborations with residents, associations, authorities, and other actors.
  • Be responsible for the operation and development of the meeting place's premises.
  • Participate in relevant networks and represent the Red Cross locally.
  • Work with activity planning, follow-up, reporting, and administration.
  • Ensure that operations are conducted according to goals, budget, and the Red Cross's values.

We are looking for you who

  • Have post-secondary education in social work, political science, or equivalent.
  • Have experience from the non-profit sector, social work, or similar operations.
  • Have experience in leadership, business development, and coordination of volunteers.
  • Are structured, administratively strong, and have good digital skills, preferably in Microsoft 365.
  • Have knowledge of diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Communicate well and preferably have experience with social media.
  • Are analytical, proactive, and have the ability to create engagement and build relationships.
  • Enjoy both independent work and teamwork.

Merits

  • Local knowledge or previous residence/work in Bergsjön or other vulnerable areas.
  • An established network among residents, organizations, and other actors in the area.
  • Multilingualism.
  • Valid driver's license (Category B).

We offer

  • Meaningful work where you make a concrete difference for people.
  • Opportunity to develop your leadership skills and build local engagement.
  • A workplace with great commitment and clear ambitions.
  • The chance to be part of the world's largest humanitarian movement.

Practical Information

The position is primarily located at the Red Cross meeting place in Bergsjön, with some working hours at Andra Långgatan in Gothenburg.
