Ward 348B/KAVA at Östra Sjukhuset is a surgical emergency care unit where patients arrive from the emergency department. The majority of patients are treated for gastrointestinal diseases. The patient throughput is high, with an average length of stay of just under three days, providing a varied and challenging daily routine.

We work person-centered in teams with nurses, assistant nurses, and doctors. The work involves investigating and assessing acutely ill patients, where some are fully treated here while others are referred to specialized wards. This offers the opportunity to gain broad competence in various surgical diagnoses.

What do the tasks look like?

You will work with common tasks for nurses, which means a varied and stimulating workday – where you make a difference! In short, the work involves recurring assessments of vital parameters and abdominal status, rounds, admitting patients from the emergency department, preparing patients for examinations and surgery, as well as medication management and sampling. You will have a leading role in patient care and coordinate preparations for acute surgeries, examinations, and discharge.

If you are, or will soon become, a registered nurse, you could be our new colleague! Knowledge and/or experience of emergency care and surgical care is meritorious for the position.

To succeed in the role, you thrive in handling a varied daily routine and are skilled at reprioritizing and meeting each patient based on their specific needs. Your ability to delegate and collaborate is very important for the position. You take a leading role when the situation requires it and are skilled at communicating in meetings with patients and relatives.

If you are a recent graduate nurse, you will participate in the Clinical Base Year, which is our induction program. The Clinical Base Year is mandatory and lasts during the first year of your employment with us. It includes lectures, nursing guidance, and practical training of your profession at the Simulator Center. In addition, it includes working on at least two different wards to broaden your competence.

In the event of recruiting nurses/doctors with foreign qualifications/specialist certificates, the current position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish qualification/specialist certificate.
