Härnösand Municipality works purposefully to create a school where everyone can grow and develop, both students and staff. An important part of this is mother tongue instruction and study guidance in the mother tongue, as Härnösand has many students with a different language background than Swedish. As a mother tongue teacher/study guide in Härnösand Municipality, you are part of Wendela Hellmanskolan's organization, but work in all of the municipality's schools. Mother tongue instruction and study guidance in Härnösand Municipality takes place from grade 1 in primary school up to and including upper secondary school.
We are now looking for a mother tongue teacher and study guide with Tigrinya as their mother tongue.
You must be a qualified mother tongue teacher in Tigrinya with documented good knowledge of speaking and writing. You should also have good knowledge of culture and traditions in the areas/countries where Tigrinya is spoken. Study guidance in the mother tongue is included as an important part of the position. To be able to be a study guide from grade 1 all the way up to upper secondary school, you must have a university education in a subject relevant to the school. Documented good knowledge of Swedish in speaking and writing corresponding to upper secondary level is a requirement.
We assume that you have experience working as a mother tongue teacher and study guide in Tigrinya. You are a positive person who is engaged in your job and wants students to succeed. You have good cooperation skills and are easy to create relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. In your role as a study guide, you will collaborate with several class/subject teachers in the municipality's various schools. Therefore, it is important that you are a structured person with good planning skills who communicates easily with other people. Personal suitability is crucial.
As a mother tongue teacher, you will conduct teaching from primary school grade 1 up to upper secondary school. We work with phased teaching. The work includes planning and conducting lessons based on the steering documents in the subject of mother tongue, as well as assessing students' knowledge and giving grades. You will also help inform students and guardians about mother tongue instruction and how to apply.
As a study guide, you work to support students in their regular schoolwork. This can range from translating and explaining lesson assignments, to preparing for tests and translating/discussing speeches and texts, both individually and during ongoing lessons. You have close collaboration with the student, subject teacher, the student's mentor, and guardians. The work requires a high degree of independence and flexibility and that you always have the student's needs in focus.
Since the position involves moving between schools, a driver's license and access to a car are meritorious. Knowledge of Amharic is also meritorious.
A extract from the criminal record is required for work within the school.
The position is filled subject to necessary decisions being made.
Employment: Temporary position from 2026-08-11 to 2027-06-17.
