About the position:

As our current sexton is retiring after many years of faithful service, we are looking for a sexton who wants to work in a varied role. As a sexton, you will be responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of Åhus S:ta Maria Church, Åhus Parish Hall, Åhus Parish Garden, Yngsjö Chapel and Parish House, as well as the New Cemetery.

The majority of your time will be spent on indoor duties, where you will work with concerts, church services, funerals, weddings, and baptisms.

You will work together with a dedicated team of seven people and have a central role in managing and developing the operations.

The work will also involve some outdoor duties at the New Cemetery.

Responsibilities:

• Duties during church services and church ceremonies, such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
• Weekend duties, approx. two weekends per month.
• Maintenance and upkeep of the parish's properties and cemeteries, including mowing, planting, trimming, and pruning bushes and trees.
• Handling burial rights cases and grave maintenance.
• Cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
• Assisting with urn interments and coffin burials.
• Winter road maintenance, including snow removal and anti-icing.
• Apply safety routines and occupational health and safety regulations.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience from similar tasks is advantageous.
• Technical knowledge and experience with sound and visual equipment.
• Good digital competence and ease in learning new systems. The work assumes that you can use a computer, tablet, and mobile phone as natural work tools.
• Stress-resistant and comfortable with large gatherings of people.
• Good physical fitness is required, as the work may involve heavy lifting.
• Detail-oriented, responsible, interested, and service-minded.
• A Category B driver's license is required.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office is advantageous.
• Member of the Church of Sweden.

Åhus Parish:

Together is an important keyword in Åhus Parish, which is an active parish in a beautiful and lively countryside. A large part of the parish's activities take place in or near the parish's only church, Åhus S:ta Maria Church. It is located at the square in the middle of the village, as is the parish hall and the office.

10 km south of Åhus lies Yngsjö Chapel and Parish House. Church services are held in the chapel during major holidays and church ceremonies.

There are many employees in the parish, several are volunteers, and 22 are employed.

Together reflects the parish's role as integrated into Åhus in a way that many experience as unique. There is well-established cooperation with various actors, such as schools, associations, and businesses.

The base town of Åhus in Kristianstad Municipality is growing, as is the urban area of Yngsjö south of Åhus. In total, there are approx. 12,500 people living in the parish. Åhus and Yngsjö are often highlighted as summer pearls by the sea, but even in winter, there is much in the countryside that appeals to us.

Frequent bus connections between Kristianstad and Åhus make it possible to commute without a car.
