Do you want to help create the best conditions for an equitable education?
At the Swedish National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools (SPSM), we work to ensure that all children, students, and adult learners with disabilities reach the goals of their education. We run our own special schools in various locations across Sweden. We also provide support to preschools and schools throughout the country to create learning environments that are developmental and accessible. Additionally, we distribute state grants and develop teaching materials.
We hope that you, with your background and competence, can contribute to increasing our diversity. You can read more about what we offer at www.spsm.se/ledigajobb (http://www.spsm.se/ledigajobb).
About Ekeskolan
All students have the right to a school that gives them the opportunity to develop based on their own prerequisites. SPSM runs schools on behalf of the state. We offer students a learning environment that provides opportunities for participation, learning, and development. We offer meaningful, stimulating, and important pedagogical work at our schools.
Ekeskolan is located in Örebro and teaches students with visual impairments and additional disabilities from preschool class through grade 10. The teaching should contribute to good conditions for the students' development and learning, as well as improved knowledge results. Our staff works extensively with form and sensory perception for all senses. We offer housing for students who cannot commute to school every day.

Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a special education teacher/teacher for instruction in Swedish Sign Language/spoken Swedish in the curricula for special schools and adapted primary schools. The majority of the instruction takes place in Swedish Sign Language/tactile sign language. Instruction is planned, implemented, and evaluated in the five subject areas found in the curriculum for adapted primary school. Most of the instruction takes place at the individual level together with a student assistant. Experiences and activities outdoors, both in the local area and in other places in Örebro County, are standing elements in the teaching. Instruction in adapted primary school subjects may also occur, in spoken Swedish.
Are you looking for an exciting workplace in a school where there is time and space to work closely with each student in smaller student groups? Then you are one of the teachers we need in our Team.
Through your pedagogical work, you will support our students with severe visual impairment combined with additional disabilities in reaching their goals. Teaching, environment, and communication are adapted to each student's needs. As a special education teacher/teacher with us, you work with teaching, pedagogical mapping, documentation, adaptation of the learning environment, follow-up, and evaluation. You are part of a work team and will plan and teach students in collaboration with teacher colleagues and student assistants. The assignment includes mentorship for the student(s).
Working with us requires close collaboration with student assistants, the students' guardians, other colleagues, and other external actors who are important for the students' health and development. You will also receive support from a special needs pedagogue, IT pedagogue, counselor, psychologist, school nurse, and physiotherapist.
We offer you a varied and stimulating job where you, in collaboration, have great opportunities to influence your own work situation and have good development opportunities. Together with your colleagues, you are responsible for promoting a positive cooperative climate throughout the operation.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have:
- Teacher certification to teach in special schools/adapted primary schools
- Basic knowledge of child development and various disabilities
- Since a student requires instruction in sign language, you must be able to teach in both sign language and spoken Swedish
- Tactile sign language
- Basic IT skills
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience teaching students who both need and do not need sign language to participate in instruction
- Experience working with students with severe visual impairment in combination with other disabilities
- Knowledge/experience in neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPD)
- Knowledge/experience of the International Child Development Programme (ICDP)
- Knowledge/experience of working with students with congenital deafblindness.
Personal Attributes
As staff at Ekeskolan, you are expected to be involved in the planning, implementation, and development of the school's operations. Social interaction and communication are important in our work.
You are flexible, have good cooperation skills with your colleagues, management, guardians, and other school staff. We value qualities such as being secure, stable, reliable, and responsive.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
