About the job

In accordance with the Planning and Building Ordinance, the Swedish Transport Administration (Transportstyrelsen) is authorized to prescribe technical performance requirements for roads, streets, metro systems, tramways, and railways, as well as facilities associated with them. This means we issue national requirements for the technical properties that are essential regarding:

  • load-bearing capacity, stability, and durability,
  • safety in the event of fire,
  • protection with regard to hygiene, health, and the environment,
  • safety during use,
  • protection against noise.

You will

  • develop and manage regulations within your area of expertise
  • lead and participate in regulatory work, government assignments, examination of exceptions, internal investigations, and respond to consultations
  • participate in standardization work nationally and potentially internationally
  • serve as an expert resource both externally and internally
  • initiate research and development related to technical performance requirements, if relevant.

Since you may participate in national and international working groups, the position involves periodic travel.

You must have

  • a degree as a Civil Engineer or a Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnics, or other education, competence, and experience that we assess as equivalent
  • a few years of relevant and current work experience in the design of foundations or structures where Eurocodes have been applied, or alternatively, reviewed documentation of such design
  • good investigative skills
  • very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish
  • good ability to understand and express yourself in speech and writing in English.

It is meritorious if you also have

  • experience from standardization nationally or internationally
  • experience of risk analysis or probability-theoretical calculations
  • experience from working on developing regulations within an area relevant to the position
  • experience from road or railway construction
  • doctoral education, for example, a PhD.

  • have good initiative and teamwork skills and be able to work both independently and in a group
  • be good at writing in a structured and understandable manner and have good pedagogical skills in oral and written presentations.

More information

The employment is permanent. We prefer a location in Borlänge, but placement can be discussed at other operational sites: Norrköping, Örebro, Stockholm, Arjeplog, Visby, Kristianstad, Gothenburg, Härnösand, Mariestad, or Umeå. We normally apply a probationary period.

As an employee, there is an opportunity to work remotely up to three days a week. It is the operational needs and the nature of the tasks that determine if and to what extent this is possible.

An employment with us may involve placement in a security classification. A security investigation with register check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted. For some of our security-classified tasks, Swedish citizenship is required.
