As an experienced earth scientist, would you like to help build and disseminate the knowledge about mineral resources required for Sweden to contribute to a secure raw material supply? The Mining and Mineral Industry Analysis Unit consists of 12 employees. The unit is responsible for producing and providing information describing the exploration and mining industries, conducting investigations, and participating in analyses regarding legislation and supply analyses affecting these industries. Additionally, we work with international training assignments concerning mines and the environment.

Responsibilities

In this role, you often work with multiple tasks in parallel, both independently and in groups where you may have the role of leader or participant. The tasks involve various types of investigations, consultations, and government assignments, including knowledge acquisition, analysis, and compilation and review of information related to the mining and exploration sector and modern society's need for metal and mineral raw materials.

Your duties include, for example, producing background material through rapid knowledge summaries on specific issues, proactively identifying knowledge gaps where decision-making support is lacking, and participating in long-term work on collecting and building knowledge regarding Sweden's mineral resources. Therefore, fieldwork with mapping may also be included in the position. You will act as support in substantive matters within our collaboration with other authorities and in international cooperation.

Your responsibilities may include dialogue with both industry and other authorities. The work is largely performed together with colleagues from different disciplines.

Our work is largely driven by the needs of our commissioners and is carried out to varying degrees in collaboration with them. The responsibilities also include presenting results in report form and to audiences, which places high demands on good language skills.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

• An academic degree relevant to the position at master's or equivalent level, or equivalent knowledge acquired through working life that SGU considers equivalent and relevant for the position.
• At least five years of combined work experience in a field relevant to the position.
• Very good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
• Good ability to express yourself well in English, both orally and in writing.

Meritorious experience and competence:

• Knowledge of Swedish regional geology and ore geology.
• Experience from exploration or the mining sector.
• Experience from post-mining treatment/closure work.
• Experience with mine-related environmental issues and legal investigations concerning the mining industry.
• Experience of international work, preferably within the mining industry and within the EU.
• Experience of project management.
• Experience of geological fieldwork.
• Class B driver's license.

About the Employment

Employment Type: Permanent full-time position, with a six-month probationary period. Start date in November 2026 or as agreed.
