The disability care services in Umeå Municipality aim to be a resource that empowers and strengthens people's ability to live independent lives through proximity and interaction.
Älvans väg is located in Tomtebo, Umeå, and is a group home under the LSS (Support and Service Act for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments). Residents live in their own apartments and share common areas. Currently, five individuals with various disabilities reside here.
We are now looking for a Support Pedagogue to join our team!
Your Responsibilities
Together with your colleagues, you will support individuals with disabilities. You work to ensure the individual participates in a functional daily life and has a fulfilling leisure time.
As a Support Pedagogue, you work with evidence-based pedagogical methods to create safety and structure in the daily lives of people with disabilities. You guide staff in user-oriented work and actively contribute to quality development, documentation, and the introduction of new colleagues. You are also part of a network of support pedagogues, where you have the opportunity for experience sharing and continuous competence development. You work on assignment from your manager, and tasks may vary over time depending on the needs of the operations.
Care work is included in the role and may involve personal hygiene, meal support, cleaning and laundry, planning activities, accompanying medical appointments, medication delegation, and documentation.
Important Information
- Challenging behavior occurs in the operation. Heavy lifting also occurs, and mobility aids are used.
- Working hours are scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends. Within disability care, we work with joint planning with other operations.
About You
We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference for our target group and who has good pedagogical skills. You have a strong commitment and a desire to contribute to quality development. You are sensitive, flexible, solution-focused, and have a good manner of interaction, as well as being skilled at communicating and collaborating with all roles you encounter in your daily work. Personal suitability is highly valued.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education consisting of at least 200 YH credits (University College Institute), Support Pedagogue, or another equivalent university college education. Alternatively, 60 higher education credits in relevant courses related to disability care. Programs and/or courses with a clear focus on working with intellectual, cognitive, or mental disabilities. Examples include:
- Ethical approaches
- Pedagogical theories and methods
- Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)
- Cognitive support
- Coaching approaches
- A few years of experience working with people with disabilities or other work experience that we consider equivalent.
Merits
- Experience with Low-Affective Interaction (LAB), Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
