Our 125 employees work to enable good housing and an attractive local environment regardless of where you are in life.

The Position and Duties

Do you want to contribute to developing a sustainable society and support initiatives that make a difference for both nature and people? Botkyrka Municipality is seeking a Municipal Biologist for the Nature and Environment Unit. Botkyrka is a municipality with significant natural values, several nature reserves, a rich agricultural landscape, and high biodiversity. The Nature and Environment Unit contributes strongly to the municipality's combined nature and environmental expertise. We work with nature and water conservation, environmental monitoring, environmental issues in physical planning, management of the municipality's forests and reserves, education in natural sciences through our mobile nature school activities, and energy advice.

Here, you will have a key role where you work both strategically and operationally with issues ranging from nature reserve management and species conservation to physical planning, ecological compensation, and climate adaptation.

As a Municipal Biologist, you are responsible for driving, coordinating, and developing the municipality's nature conservation work. You work closely with colleagues within urban development, land and development, park management, and the environment, while collaborating with landowners, authorities, consultants, researchers, and non-profit organizations as needed. You will prepare and present investigations and develop decision materials for the board meetings. The assignment includes compiling material in a clear and structured manner, adapting the information to the target audience, and verbally presenting materials to board members.

The role offers great freedom under responsibility and includes both strategic development work, project management, field work, investigations, and advisory services.

Your duties include, among other things:

  • Strategic nature conservation work, including acting as coordinator for the municipality's nature conservation program, Botkyrka's green values.
  • Nature reserves and nature conservation management. E.g., protection of valuable nature and work with meadows, pastures, and other valuable natural areas.
  • Invasive alien species, including by coordinating the municipality's work with invasive alien species by developing routines, guidelines, and work processes.
  • Physical planning and urban development, in your role as a nature conservation expert.
  • Project management and procurement. E.g., leading nature conservation projects from idea to implementation.
  • Collaboration and communication, by informing and advising colleagues, citizens, and external actors.

The position involves outward-facing work where you are an important part of developing and quality-assuring the municipality's nature conservation work. You contribute to creating clear and efficient processes that support the operations' mission and decision-making.

We offer you

At the Nature and Environment Unit, you become part of a team with eleven engaged colleagues who together work to preserve and develop Botkyrka's blue and green values. Here, you have the opportunity to grow in your professional role through continuous competence development and inspiring internal training. We offer a workplace with flexible working methods, the possibility of remote work some days, and a work culture where community and engagement are central. Above all, you get the chance to contribute to work that makes a difference, both for today's citizens and for Botkyrka's future.

Here, you have the opportunity to develop your work within nature conservation in an organization where your competence is valued. We work actively with improvement efforts and offer a work environment that provides space for engagement and professional development.

You are relationship-building and establish trusting contacts in collaboration with various operations and stakeholders, which is a prerequisite for the outward-facing work. At the same time, you are solution-oriented and contribute to handling trade-offs and finding functional and long-term solutions in issues concerning nature conservation and land use.
