Do you want to work to preserve and protect valuable nature? We are looking for an engaged employee who wants to be part of our work to protect natural areas and valuable nature in Stockholm County.

What does the role involve?

The work involves assessing habitat types in our Natura 2000 areas based on remote sensing and various forms of geodata, and reporting data in different systems such as webbGis and ArcGIS Pro. The work may involve digital aerial photo interpretation and field checks. The unit also has other GIS-related tasks where ecological/biological competence is needed. Among other things, we work on creating value maps for forests and in our ongoing work with area protection cases. You will independently compile data, perform background analyses, inventory forest areas, and report the results.

This assignment is part of the County Administrative Board's work with the Nature Restoration Regulation, implementing the EU's regulation on nature restoration. Good cooperation with the outside world is a success factor for this work, which is why we are looking for you with good communication skills.

The work is primarily carried out at the office, but field visits are also required in the position. A driver's license is therefore a requirement.

You may also handle reserve cases according to the Environmental Code. This means that you conduct nature value assessments, collect and compile information from various sources, weigh different interests, delimit and describe areas, and produce decision documents and management plans. These tasks include having contacts internally and with other authorities, municipalities, landowners, the public, and others.

Are you the one we are looking for?

For this role, we want you to have:

  • a university degree in natural sciences with a focus on biology, ecology, or other education that the employer deems relevant,
  • basic knowledge of GIS,
  • good communication skills in Swedish, both oral and written,
  • driver's license (B).

We are looking for someone who is good at collaborating and cooperating by creating and maintaining good relationships, both internally and externally. You are results-oriented, flexible, and accustomed to compiling information and weighing different interests. Your work style is structured, and you are used to handling multiple assignments simultaneously.

You are proactive and good at independently driving issues towards set goals. In addition, you have good strategic ability and take responsibility for creating long-term solutions.

As an employee at the County Administrative Board, you need to:

  • have the ability to make decisions from a holistic perspective, taking several perspectives into account,
  • understand that a central role for the County Administrative Board is to make trade-offs between different interests,
  • have the ability to prioritize and adapt to work with new tasks or in new contexts.

We place decisive importance on personal qualities and consider it a matter of course that you contribute to good cooperation and work climate.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • knowledge of habitat types in accordance with the Habitats Directive,
  • good species knowledge and experience of nature value inventories in forests or other natural environments,
  • knowledge and experience in digital aerial photo interpretation, qualified knowledge in ArcGIS, and preferably experience of ecological analyses in ArcGIS Pro,
  • experience of working with area protection or its regulations,
  • experience of working in the public sector,
  • knowledge of nature values in marine or limnic environments.

With us, you will work with engaged colleagues in a dynamic work environment, where you have the opportunity to make a real difference for nature. We offer a workplace where competence development and balance between work and leisure are important parts of our culture.

We work in centrally located premises in Stockholm. Opportunities for remote work exist based on the needs of the business.
