The Department of Zoology is one of the departments within the Faculty of Science and employs approximately 80 staff members, including researchers, PhD students, and administrative personnel. Research and education at the department take place in an international environment and focus on animal biology. Distinguished and high-quality research is conducted in a range of different subjects, including behavior, conservation biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, and genomics.

Job Description
As a Laboratory Coordinator, you play a central role in developing, coordinating, and supporting the department's laboratory operations. You contribute to ensuring that the laboratory environments are safe, efficient, and functional for researchers while complying with current legislation, authority requirements, and university regulations.
The role involves close collaboration with researchers, PhD students, students, as well as technical and administrative staff. You serve as the department's expert support in laboratory safety, chemical management, and occupational health and safety issues, with a clear mandate, backed by the department's management, to drive development and follow-up in these areas.
The responsibilities include, among other things:
- coordination and development of the department's shared laboratory resources and environments
- responsibility for chemical inventory and management, including administration in the KLARA system
- ordering, purchasing, supplier contacts, and follow-up of service agreements
- coordination of shared laboratory spaces and equipment
- coordination and support regarding risk assessments, safety rounds, incident reporting, and other occupational health-related processes
- monitoring that laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with current legislation, regulations, and local guidelines
- introduction of new employees, students, and visitors regarding laboratory safety, chemical management, and local routines
- advice and support to the operations in matters concerning laboratory safety, occupational health, and regulatory compliance
- advice and support to the operations regarding ethical permits for animal experiments
Qualifications
- academic degree in a relevant natural science field (e.g., biology, chemistry, or biomedical analysis) or equivalent competence
- several years of experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in an academic setting
- good knowledge of legislation and routines regarding laboratory safety, chemical management, and occupational health
- good knowledge of academic research environments
- strong administrative and organizational skills
- good digital competence and experience with relevant administrative systems (experience with KLARA is meritorious)
- excellent verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English
Meritorious Qualifications
- experience in coordinating roles within academic operations
- PhD in a research subject relevant to the Department of Zoology
- experience in systematic occupational health and safety work, risk assessments, and safety rounds
- experience in introducing, educating, or mentoring staff and students
- experience in purchasing, supplier contacts, and contract follow-up
To succeed in the role, you are structured, meticulous, and solution-oriented. You have a good ability to translate complex regulations into practical and well-functioning working methods in daily operations.
The work requires a high degree of independence and sound judgment. As the role involves interaction with many different professional groups, excellent teamwork skills and a pedagogical approach are required. You have high integrity and are comfortable independently driving and following up on matters concerning safety and regulatory compliance. You have the ability to be clear and constructive even in situations where regulations or safety requirements need to be upheld.
About the Position
The position is permanent and full-time, with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date by agreement.
