The Polar Research Secretariat is a government agency that promotes and coordinates Swedish polar research. The agency is responsible for long-term planning of research and research infrastructure, as well as organizing and conducting research expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic.
The agency's overarching goal is to contribute to increased international impact for Swedish polar research through collaboration, high-quality research infrastructure, and international partnerships.
The operations include, among other things, the Abisko Scientific Research Station, the Kristineberg Marine Research Station, the icebreaker Oden, and the Swedish research stations Wasa and Svea in Antarctica. The Polar Research Secretariat has approximately 50 employees and is located in Luleå, Abisko, Helsingborg, and Fiskebäckskil.
The Polar Research Secretariat is now seeking an IT Manager who wants to develop and coordinate the agency's IT operations and contribute to a secure and long-term sustainable digital development. The role is newly established, giving you great opportunities to influence working methods, structure, and the development of the agency's future IT operations. The role is placed within the Business Support Unit.
About the Unit
The Business Support Unit is tasked with providing qualified support to the Director and the agency's operations. The unit is responsible for agency-wide governance, follow-up, and developing strategic issues together with unit managers, while ensuring that the agency has internal governance and control that functions in a reassuring manner. The unit encompasses functions for finance and payroll, HR, IT, procurement, and registry.
About the Role
As IT Manager, you have overall responsibility for the agency's IT operations and drive the development of the agency's IT work. The role is both strategic, tactical, and operational, involving responsibility for the governance, coordination, and development of the agency's IT environments. You work in close collaboration with management, operations, and external suppliers, playing a key role in ensuring that IT and digitalization support the organization's goals and needs.
Responsibilities
As IT Manager, you will among other things:
- ensure stable and secure IT operations, including telephony and agency-wide systems
- lead and develop the agency's IT operations in line with business goals
- manage and develop architecture and security principles and ensure compliance with these
- coordinate agency-wide IT and business-close IT functions
- prepare decision support materials for the management group regarding IT strategy, investments, risks, and priorities
- be responsible for handling and managing IT incidents
- coordinate and follow up on IT deliveries and external suppliers
- ensure that the agency meets requirements within information security, such as MSBFS 2020:6–8
The role includes the mandate to prioritize within given budget frameworks and to handle and raise strategic issues and risks to the management group.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- post-secondary education in IT, systems science, information security, or other education/experience that the employer considers equivalent
- experience in coordinating, developing, and leading IT and digitalization work
- experience in IT coordination and governance
- experience in working with information security and relevant regulations, such as MSBFS and the ISO 27000 series
- experience in requirement specification, contract follow-up, and collaboration with external IT suppliers
- experience in incident management and continuity work
- experience from the public sector
- good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing
Merits

- experience with distributed or business-critical IT environments
- experience in building new functions or organizations
- understanding of the connection between business, information security, and IT support
- experience in preparing decision support materials and presenting issues to management or steering groups
- experience working in security-sensitive or classified operations
- academic degree in a relevant field
Personal Qualities
To succeed in the role, you need to be a confident and clear leader with the ability to create structure, direction, and trust in a complex operation. You work strategically but also have the ability to translate decisions into practical implementation. The role places high demands on integrity and judgment, especially in matters concerning information security and risk management.
You are communicative and cooperative and have an easy time building good relationships both internally and externally. Furthermore, you are solution-oriented, analytical, and thrive in environments where you need to handle multiple perspectives simultaneously.
Other Information
The position is permanent and begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date by agreement.

Travel in the role occurs.
