The Surgical and Gastroenterology Department at Skåne University Hospital (SUS) includes surgical and gastroenterological activities in Lund and Malmö, as well as surgical activities in Landskrona. We provide acute, specialized, and highly specialized care with both regional and national assignments. Approximately 790 employees work within the department.

Surgical Ward 1 and 2 is a large unit providing high-quality care for acute surgical patients, where both preoperative and postoperative care is provided. The unit has 49 care beds distributed across Surgical Ward 1 and 2, and all staff currently rotate between both wards. The ward's interprofessional team includes nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, nursing leaders, specialist nurses, advanced specialist nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and medical secretaries. Pharmacists, social workers, and dietitians are also attached to the ward. In daily work, there is close support from unit managers. We offer a family-like workplace where we care for each other, have a high ceiling, and are quick to laugh. The atmosphere on the ward is characterized by openness and tolerance, where we help each other across boundaries.

Job Description

In the role of a nursing assistant with us, you work with the care of acutely ill surgical patients as well as with preoperative preparations and postoperative care of patients who have undergone various types of surgery. Medical technical tasks, such as inserting a urinary catheter (KAD), peripheral venous blood sampling, wound dressings, stoma care, fluid balance, and NEWS checks, are common tasks. The patients have a large care need, and it is of great importance that you, as a nursing assistant, together with the nurse, ensure every patient's needs are met. As a nursing assistant, you are expected to be active during rounds, work independently, take initiative, and raise patient needs together with your nurse.

The work climate on the ward is characterized by openness and tolerance, as well as helping each other across boundaries. We offer an individualized introduction with regular follow-up to ensure that you, as a new nursing assistant, feel secure in your professional practice. You set your own schedule and thereby have the opportunity to influence your working hours.

Qualifications

We welcome you who are trained as a nursing assistant and meet the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for a protected job title, regardless of whether you studied under the previous or current program structure. For this position, you have studied the acute care/nursing specialization according to the previous program structure or are a trained nursing assistant within the new program structure who has studied all specializations. Good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, are required. Previous surgical experience is considered an advantage.
