The Swedish National Heritage Board is Sweden's authority for matters concerning cultural heritage. We work to ensure that cultural environments, cultural landscapes, cultural objects, and museums are preserved, used, and developed. Our mission is guided by the government's goals for cultural policy and state cultural environment work. Our operations are located in Visby, Stockholm, and Tumba, and we also conduct public activities at the visitor site Glimmingehus. We have approximately 250 employees.

Case Handler for National Interests

We are now looking for a case handler for the Unit for Landscape Development, within the Cultural Environment Department, with a focus on the national interests of cultural heritage care and remissions related to the cultural environment in societal development.

The Cultural Environment Department is responsible for the authority's work within the cultural environment area by promoting a sustainable society where a diversity of cultural environments can be preserved, used, and developed. We lead and support cultural environment work in the country and strive to ensure that cultural environment interests are met in urban planning and construction. We are also responsible for managing and making digital cultural-historical information about ancient monuments and buildings accessible. The department consists of four units, one of which is landscape development.

The Unit for Landscape Development is responsible, among other things, for the authority's supervision of the management of land and water areas. This includes work with national interests and World Heritage sites. The unit responds to remissions and conducts method development and knowledge dissemination regarding the management and development of the cultural environment. Current issues include the expansion of energy and infrastructure, marine planning, primary industries, as well as restoration, protection, and maintenance of areas. The unit is also responsible for coordinating the authority's work with the implementation of environmental quality objectives and for matters concerning intangible cultural heritage in relation to the cultural environment.

Your Responsibilities

You will work with the processing of cases concerning the national interests of cultural heritage care, such as reviews and updates, as well as remissions related to the cultural environment in societal development. The work also includes processing cases related to the large-scale energy transition.

A large part of this work involves creating and maintaining good contacts with the County Administrative Boards and other national interest authorities.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who have higher education in the field of built heritage archaeology, the cultural environment area, e.g., archaeology, cultural geography, or other equivalent education. Additional education, e.g., in urban planning, is meritorious.

We see that you have experience in processing cultural environment issues within public administration and an understanding of and familiarity with handling the national interest system. To succeed in the role, you need to have experience handling the Environmental Code as well as knowledge of planning and building permit processes.

The work is both strategic and operational and takes place largely through collaboration both within and outside the premises of public administration. Being able to understand and analyze the impact on the cultural environment and cultural-historical values in landscape transformation is a requirement. Work experience related to reviews of the national interests of cultural heritage care is meritorious.

You have the ability to switch between different tasks as the position is divided between processing cases concerning national interests and handling remissions concerning large-scale landscape changes linked to the green transition.

For this role, we are looking for you who are both independent and have good collaboration skills, as well as being service-oriented. As a person, you are meticulous, analytical, unpretentious, and open to learning new things, contributing with a positive attitude to create a good workplace characterized by engagement and joy in work. Furthermore, good oral and written skills are important. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Other Information

The position is full-time and permanent with a probationary period of 6 months. The location is Visby. For most of our positions, we can offer some remote work up to 50%.
