Job Description

The Division of Nuclear Science and Technology (NSE) at the Department of Physics is seeking an ambitious, motivated, structured, and collaborative postdoctoral researcher to join the nuclear fuel materials team. The role involves studying fission product kinetics through ion implantation of advanced nuclear fuel (uranium nitride). The project is supported by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (https://www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se/ (https://www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se/)) and is conducted in collaboration with Westinghouse and Uppsala University. You will lead research efforts using experimental and computational methods to evaluate the diffusion kinetics of fission products and the formation of High Burnup Structure (HBS) in uranium nitride.

Requirements

• A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. This requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• PhD in nuclear engineering, materials science, solid mechanics, or a related field.

Merits

• PhD degree or equivalent foreign degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.
• Practical experience in laboratory work related to sintering, powder metallurgy, and characterization techniques.
• Knowledge and experience in modeling techniques for mesoscale and multiphysics finite element modeling.
• Strong communication skills and proficiency in English, both written and spoken, as required for daily work.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently.
• Motivation and commitment to research are highly valued.
• Teaching experience is a plus.

About the Position

The position is permanent, with a maximum duration of two years.
