Östbergsskolan is a school for grades 4–9 with approximately 420 students, a related leisure-time center, and is centrally located on Frösön in Östersund. We are close to outdoor life and nature, and within cycling distance to Östersund's city center and other districts. Here, active outdoor life alternates with a developing working life; it is close to work, friends, and school. Your new job

We are now looking for a qualified special needs teacher (specialpedagog) for the lower secondary school (grades 7–9) at Östbergsskolan. You are well acquainted with the school's governing documents and can translate them into daily work. You have a genuine interest in students' development and learning, see opportunities, are flexible, dare to try new working methods, and have good collaboration skills. You must have knowledge of reading and writing acquisition and knowledge within mathematics teaching.

As a special needs teacher, you will work with pedagogical development, be part of the school's Student Health Team (SHT), conduct supervision for staff, and work actively with students. This includes mapping, individual support, and writing action plans. In addition to this position, there is another special needs teacher employed at the school.

Your responsibilities

  • Work individually and in groups with special pedagogical interventions for students.
  • Supervise staff regarding special pedagogical interventions, e.g., extra accommodations and reading development methods.
  • Develop extra accommodations for students and instruct teachers, e.g., help create appropriate materials and time aids.
  • Map students and instruct teachers on how to map, e.g., screenings.
  • Be responsible for pedagogical mappings and investigations, and assist the principal with action plans.
  • Participate in the Student Health Team and Student Health meetings.
  • Drive development work in the area, e.g., create mapping/screening plans, observe students and classes to improve learning environments and teaching methods.
  • Assist the principal with the distribution of resources and scheduling.
  • The position primarily belongs to grades 7–9, but it may become relevant to work across the entire school unit (grades 4–9).

Your qualifications

Requirements

  • Licensed special needs teacher (specialpedagog).
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to build good relationships.
  • Good collaboration skills.

Merits

  • Good knowledge of digital work and computer skills.
  • Previous experience as a special needs teacher.
  • Experience working with the later part of compulsory school.
  • Experience working closely with students who have difficulty achieving goals in compulsory school.
