to apply for the job
Are you interested in working with advanced diagnostics and developing your skills in flow cytometry or immunohistochemistry? Do you want to be part of a team working with both complex analyses and technical solutions in an stimulating work environment? Then you might be the person we are looking for at our Special Laboratory at Karolinska University Hospital!
What we offer
- An stimulating and developmental job with varied tasks such as sample handling and analysis.
- Opportunities to deepen your knowledge in flow cytometry, hematopathology, and immunohistochemistry.
- Opportunities to participate in courses, training, and meetings within the field.
- A mandatory introduction program to enable independent work, with the possibility of taking method responsibility.
Naturally, you will also benefit from the general perks that Karolinska University Hospital offers.
About the position
We are currently recruiting staff for two of our laboratories – the flow cytometry laboratory and the immunohistochemistry laboratory. The positions are permanent, subject to a probationary period.
Flow Cytometry Laboratory
At the flow cytometry laboratory, we work in close collaboration with hematopathologists and analyze approximately 4,000 patient samples annually, primarily blood and bone marrow samples, using flow cytometry for the diagnosis of leukemia and lymphoma. Approximately 10 percent of our analyses consist of more advanced investigations, such as minimal residual disease (MRD) analyses. We also perform certain histological preparations of fresh material.
The work is independent and covers the entire sample chain – from referral assessment and selection of analysis to result evaluation. The tasks involve manual laboratory work, including pipetting, analysis on a flow cytometer, and technical interpretation of results.
The analyses are advanced, and the interpretation of flow cytometry results is complex, implying a longer training period for several of the analyses. However, you will quickly get into the daily routine and have the opportunity to work independently early on, while your training continues, always with support and guidance from experienced colleagues.
Immunohistochemistry Laboratory
At the immunohistochemistry laboratory, we conduct highly specialized diagnostics, development, and training at one of the country's largest immunohistochemistry laboratories. Our work contributes to diagnosing diseases and monitoring treatment effects. As a biomedical scientist here, you play a key role in supporting patient diagnostics and treatment through specialized analyses.
Our samples mainly consist of tissues and cells with various tumor-related questions and infectious diseases. The analysis work is carried out using advanced laboratory equipment. The laboratory has eleven fully automated immunostaining instruments and currently uses more than 400 different antibodies and probes in complex staining techniques, such as IHC (protein detection), RISH, and CISH (nucleic acid detection).
The work is varied and consists mainly of laboratory work according to established protocols and given authorizations. Tasks include pre-analysis, sectioning, handling and maintenance of laboratory instruments, documentation in laboratory journals, dilution of antibodies, and evaluation of laboratory results.
We continuously work on development and improvement efforts to strengthen the quality and efficiency of the laboratory's routines, processes, and working methods.
The Special Laboratory comprises five operations with associated workgroups: Immunohistochemistry, Flow Cytometry, Kidney and Transplantation, Scanning, and Dispatch. We work daytime hours, and the operations are characterized by close collaboration, high competence, and great engagement.
We are looking for you who
- Work well with complex issues and have the ability to analyze and solve problems in laboratory work.
- Have the courage to make decisions and confidence in your professional competence in laboratory work and technical equipment.
- Enjoy working in a team, where collaboration and communication are important for achieving the best results.
- Are calm, attentive, and accommodating in your interactions and strive to contribute to solutions and efficient work.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Licensed biomedical scientist or equivalent competence in a relevant field.
- Proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.
- Good computer skills.
- Basic knowledge of histology and pathology.
Merits:
- Previous experience in flow cytometry and/or immunohistochemistry.
- Good knowledge of morphology.
About the recruitment process
Selection and interviews may take place continuously during the application period.
In connection with your application, you need to attach a CV. Instead of a cover letter, we ask you to answer selection questions and briefly explain why you are suitable for the role. Answering the questions is a prerequisite for your application to be considered complete.
