Come closer – come to Nykvarn Municipality. With nature as your neighbor and the pulse of the big city just around the corner, there are 12,500 residents of Nykvarn whose days are affected by what we do, and what you do. Our work rests on a stable foundation of trust, responsibility, engagement, and professionalism – for us, it is about working with both heart and mind. In Nykvarn, you are never just one of the crowd. No matter what shoes you wear and what steps you take, you become part of something bigger, where every workday builds the future. What is your next step?
We at the Office of Building, Housing and Environment take great responsibility for complex issues regarding the municipality's development. Nykvarn is growing, and we need to be quick-footed and solution-oriented because development is ongoing all the time. We have a major responsibility to create public benefit and to do that little extra in our work every day.
Job ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for you who are secure, structured, and have good judgment. You thrive in a role where you can combine independent work with collaboration and where you need to balance service with authority functions. You have the ability to make objective assessments, communicate clearly, be structured and careful, and have an eye for detail. You are curious, solution-oriented, and want to contribute to the development of both supervision and the group's joint working methods. To succeed in the role, you need to be comfortable meeting both businesses, residents, and other authorities. You also need to be able to handle cases where there are sometimes different expectations, strong opinions, or a need for clear official decisions.
The role includes among other things:
- planning and conducting supervision according to the Environmental Code,
- handling complaints and incoming environmental cases,
- conducting site visits and inspections,
- reviewing companies' self-control,
- assessing environmental risks and need for measures,
- writing inspection reports, decisions, and orders,
- following up that decided measures are carried out,
- providing clear information and guidance to operators and residents,
- contributing to supervision planning, needs investigation, and business follow-up,
- participating in the development of routines, templates, and digital working methods.
Do you want to work broadly with environmental supervision and at the same time help develop future working methods within municipal authority functions? Now we are looking for an Environmental Inspector for the Building and Environment Department with a focus on general environmental supervision. With us, you get an important role in an activity where legal certainty, service, environmental benefit, and societal development meet. You become part of an environmental group that works with supervision according to the Environmental Code and that has close cooperation with building permits, planning, technical operations, and other parts of the municipality. We are looking for you who want to work in a broad and varied role where you both get to handle your own cases, conduct supervision, meet operators, and contribute to developing our joint working methods.
As an Environmental Inspector with us, you work with general environmental supervision according to the Environmental Code. The role includes both planned supervision and event-driven cases. You will handle complaints, conduct inspections, review self-control, and follow up that businesses meet the requirements of legislation. The work can, for example, include supervision of less environmentally hazardous businesses, waste management, chemicals, disturbances, emissions, self-control, and other environmental issues that arise within the municipality's supervisory responsibility. The role is broad and an important part of the work group. You will contribute to handling cases efficiently, making supervision more systematic, and making our assessments clear and uniform. There is also the possibility to develop towards greater responsibility in some part of environmental protection in the long term, depending on your experience, competence, and the activity's needs.
With us, you get a broad and developing role in a municipality where environmental issues are an important part of the societal building process. You get to work closely with colleagues within environment, building permits, planning, and technical operations, and help contribute to clear, legally secure, and efficient processes. We are in a development phase where digitalization, new working methods, and increased systematicity in supervision are important parts. This means that you not only get to work with ongoing cases, but also help influence how we develop the activity forward.
QualificationsRequirements:
- relevant education within the environmental and health protection area or equivalent education,
- knowledge of the Environmental Code,
- good ability to express yourself in speech and writing,
- good administrative ability,
