Specialist Nurse for the Psychiatric Ambulance – Prehospital Acute Psychiatric Care
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
The Psychiatric Ambulance is expanding its prehospital mandate and is seeking specialist nurses who are interested in prehospital emergency care, psychiatric emergency care, and development. The unit is dispatched via 112 and covers the entire Region Uppsala area.
Our Operations
The Psychiatry Business Area at Akademiska sjukhuset is organized into four sections, where the emergency department for adult psychiatry and the psychiatric emergency care ward belong to the Acute and Consultative Psychiatry section.
The emergency department for adult psychiatry operates 24/7 and has overall responsibility for psychiatric emergency operations as well as consultative services for the rest of the hospital. The emergency department includes a psychiatric emergency care ward (PAVA) with twelve beds and the PAM unit, staffed by specialist nurses and care assistants with extensive experience in acute psychiatric care. We are looking for you who are a specialist nurse in psychiatry with an interest in acute psychiatry and wish to contribute to the development of prehospital care.
We can offer a varied and stimulating workplace that provides room for personal and professional development at both an individual and group level. We offer a good working environment where we together ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
Your Role
As a specialist nurse, you, together with other specialist nurses, are responsible for leading and developing psychiatric nursing care both at the patient level and at the unit level. With us, you rotate between three different units: PAM, the emergency department, and PAVA, which means varied and developmental tasks.
Leading Specialist Nurse in the Psychiatric Ambulance (PAM) is responsible for nursing and medical care. You perform acute psychiatric assessments that require immediate intervention in the environment where the patient is located. You work in a team together with an experienced care assistant, and together you contribute to creating security for the patient and their relatives, providing professional and qualified care. Some assignments involve close cooperation with other agencies such as the police, ambulance services, and rescue services to ensure the patient's needs are met.
Leading Specialist Nurse at the Emergency Department has overall responsibility for the emergency department and the emergency room. Together with nursing staff and doctors, you provide good and safe emergency care. You monitor patient flow, perform initial acute assessments, triage patients, and carry out immediate nursing interventions.
Leading Specialist Nurse at PAVA has overall responsibility for providing good and safe care. The nursing care is person-centered and evidence-based and takes place in collaboration with other professional groups. We work in teams consisting of nurses and care assistants, and you are responsible for 6 patients, but also share overall responsibility together with other care teams.
Your Qualifications and Competence
We are looking for you who are a registered nurse with specialist education in psychiatric care, have personal maturity, and want to work with people in vulnerable situations. You have the ability to understand people, instill security and calm in critical situations. You create trust and build professional relationships. You have the ability to adjust your pace, make correct acute assessments, prioritize, and feel secure in your professional role. You must be able to work both independently and in a team, lead work, and have clear communication with colleagues and other professionals.
