The Department of Process and Environmental Engineering (PLE) at Lund University is located at Kemicentrum, one of the largest centers in the Nordic region for education and research in the field of chemistry. PLE has approximately 150 employees, of whom about 65 are doctoral students. The department offers broad expertise in areas such as chemical engineering, food technology, biotechnology, and technical microbiology. The research and education at PLE span the entire field of chemistry and include both undergraduate and graduate studies.

The Department of Process and Environmental Engineering (PLE) at Lund University actively works to ensure a good working environment through various initiatives and routines. This includes regular meetings and dialogues to discuss work environment issues and find common solutions.

Description of the Activity

The position is located at the Division of Biotechnology and Technical Microbiology at Lund University. The division conducts research and education within microbial biotechnology, focusing on microbial metabolism, biocatalysis, and the development of sustainable production processes.

The division is located at Kemicentrum, which houses both the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Process and Environmental Engineering. This provides access to a broad spectrum of expertise, shared infrastructure, as well as advanced analytical and molecular biological facilities. The research environment includes several research groups active in complementary areas within chemistry and biotechnology, creating excellent opportunities for interaction and collaboration.

The research activities at the division include engineering development and analysis of microbial systems for the production of chemicals and materials of societal relevance. The current position is part of ongoing efforts to develop new microbial and enzymatic methods for lignin valorization.

The workplace is characterized by an international environment with close collaboration between doctoral students, postdocs, and senior researchers. The division promotes a collaborative and supportive work environment with regular seminars and good opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange.
