RESPONSIBILITIES

At the Mapping and Surveying Unit, we are eight employees working closely together to distribute geodata across municipal operations. As a GIS Engineer, your primary focus will be to manage and further develop the municipality's GIS systems, web maps, and geodata services, as well as execute GIS tasks for municipal operations, companies, and joint authorities. The work includes development projects, ongoing operational issues, data management, user support, training, and technical strategy matters.

A key part of the role is to contribute to using GIS as a natural support in the municipality's community development processes. This means that together with various operations, you will produce maps, analyses, and decision support materials for planning, investigations, and development projects. We aim to strengthen the use of GIS as an analytical tool within community development, where geographic information is used to understand relationships, visualize needs, and contribute to well-founded decisions.

The role also involves using GIS to find creative and practical solutions to the needs and challenges of operations. This may involve combining geographic data from different sources, automating tasks, developing map services, or finding new ways to analyze and visualize information.

You will have the opportunity to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues and operations within the municipal group. The role offers good opportunities to influence working methods, technology, and how GIS is used in the organization. We are currently working with software such as FME, QGIS, GeoServer, and Origo.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who have education in GIS, geography, urban planning, land surveying, systems science, or other education that the employer deems equivalent. You have a good understanding of geographic information and how GIS can be used for maps, analyses, system administration, and operational support.

It is an advantage if you have experience with GIS systems, web maps, geodata services, and GIS analyses within areas such as community development, planning, infrastructure, environment, or traffic. We would like you to have experience working with software such as FME, QGIS, GeoServer, and Origo, as well as an understanding of SQL, JSON, and simpler scripting or automation.

As a person, you are structured, analytical, and solution-oriented. You find it easy to collaborate and communicate with both colleagues and users, and you enjoy translating operational needs into practical GIS solutions. We would like you to be curious, creative, and development-oriented, and to contribute to using GIS more actively as support for analysis, planning, and decision-making.
