Vara Municipality is in a development phase with major establishments, expansion projects within both housing, infrastructure, and municipal facilities. To meet future needs, we are now building a stronger organization.
From January 1, 2026, the "Sector Society" (Sektor Samhälle) was established – a cross-functional organization where responsibility and competence are gathered to plan, execute, manage, and develop the municipality's physical environment and internal services in a sustainable, efficient, and long-term manner.
We are now looking for a Water and Wastewater Engineer / Project Manager who wants to help develop tomorrow's water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure in Vara Municipality.
Your role
As a Water and Wastewater Engineer / Project Manager, you play a central role in the development of Vara Municipality's water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure. You work with investigations, design, and implementation of investment and reinvestment projects within the water and wastewater sector.
The role is part of the municipality's consolidated portfolio for Infrastructure and Development Projects, where investments are planned and executed in close collaboration between Water & Wastewater, Streets & Parks, Property, and Planning & Growth.
You work closely with the Water & Wastewater Manager, operations organization, investigators, project controllers, consultants, and contractors, contributing water and wastewater expertise and project management skills throughout the various stages of projects.
Your tasks include, among other things:
- Lead and coordinate water and wastewater-related parts within the municipality's infrastructure and development projects
- Prepare technical documents, calculations, schedules, and decision-making materials
- Participate in procurement processes and act as the client representative towards consultants and contractors
- Collaborate with operations, investigators, project controllers, and other project managers to ensure efficient implementation
- Contribute to the development of the municipality's project model, portfolio management, and common working methods
- Participate in the planning and development of future water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure
Your knowledge and experience
The role requires both technical competence, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate with many different actors. Therefore, we look for someone who has:
- A university degree in Water & Wastewater, Civil Engineering, Environment, Road & Water, or another education deemed equivalent by the employer
- Experience in project management within Water & Wastewater, Civil Engineering, or other technical infrastructure
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and follow up on projects regarding time, economy, and quality
- Interest in development work, digital working methods, and system support
- Good ability to collaborate and build trust-based relationships
- Good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written
- Valid driver's license (Category B)
Merits include experience in municipal operations, public procurement, or work with water and wastewater-related legal and land issues.
Your future workplace
Sector Society gathers the municipality's responsibility for the planning, execution, operation, and management of the physical environment. The sector includes operations such as Property, Streets & Parks, Water & Wastewater, Catering, Premises Maintenance, Planning & Growth, and Environment & Building.
The sector also includes a support staff with investigators and project controllers and works closely with the municipality's support functions in communication, economy, administration, and HR.
With us, you become part of an organization where societal building is seen as a cohesive process. We believe that the best solutions are created when planning, execution, and management work towards the same goals and in close collaboration with each other.
